Pierce Brosnan will play James Bond in the next 007 film, co-star Dame Judi Dench has revealed

The 51-year-old will reprise his role as the suave secret agent in Casino Royale, she said. "Despite the fact that everyone on the face of the Earth has been tested as his possible replacement, Pierce will be doing it again," added Dench, who plays M in the movies.

It will be announced come the summer.

Who's that honey who works for 'Tiger' and drives him around, the doll who get's killed with the poison?

That would be Aki, played by Akiko Wakabayashi. Kissy Suzuki is the one he gets "married" to. </Bond geek>

I agree with you about the "All We Need Is Lots of Action" mode. I thought the original Bond movies had much better character development and story lines. In the context of the times in which they were made, they were clever and inventive. And the original film makers took risks with the formula that the current producers don't.

Connery was was a pretty cold blooded Bond when necessary.

Such as in Dr. No, after he kills Professor Dent, he puts an extra bullet into the body before he leaves.

I've always thought Jason Statham would be good, in addition to Clive Owen, though I don't know if the world is ready for a shaved-head Bond.

Casino Royale was a great book. They were all great books for that matter.

Christian Bale would make an excellent Bond (can't wait to see the new Batman). Ian McGregor would make another fine Bond. Of the two, I think Christian is psycho and silly enough to be a convincing double "O" killer (Ian is a great comic and better at the funny and true romance than the action). Most actors are unreliable for their politics (except our dear Ronald Reagan). But then again, the James Bond character is a farce to the intel community. I'll wager that true field craft experts are far more serious and less showy while the Bond wannabes, though very book smart, are heavily sedating themselves with vanity and alcohol behind computer screens.

Brosnan was not too bad.. compared to SOME of the winners they had

The last one (with Halle Berry) was pretty good

Man, you are.

She was fantastic, though, huh?

Couple of good points above. Shouldn't Bond should be a psycopath... killing without feeling? Wasn't that the original intent?

Dalton was dark, but he's too emotional... vengeful (about Felix), adoring (the cello chick), etc. I can't reconcile the emoting with his supposed/intended psycopathy.

Brosnan was ok, but that pinky in the air is beyond wuss. What a lightweight. I can hear him saying to himself 'Do I really wanna drink this 70-proof-watered-down-it'll-make-a-hooligan-of-me.'

He just seems like a pencil-neck to me.

I think Brosnan is a good Bond - he's not Sean Connery, but he's way ahead of all the rest of 'em.

There is a long story on the film rights to Casino Royale and how Broccoli did not get them.
Somehow they ended up being owned by Hollywood Agent & Producer Charles Feldman. This may have gone back to when CBS back in the mid 1950's before Bond was popular did a live TV show of "Casino Royale" using American Actor Barry Nelson who played Bond as an American and was known as "Jimmy Bond", Le Chiffe, the SPECTRE agent, was played by Peter Lorre and all this was on a TV show called "Climax". This thing was a pilot episode for a possible series. Somehow in this Feldman got the rights and the end result was that he could not get cooperation from Broccoli for a joint deal to do "Casino Royale" ,so he ended up doing the big spoof movie which actually made money.
By the way the female character of "Valerie Mathis, the Bond girl in this TV show was Linda Christian the second wife of Tyrone Power.

And there is an equally long story about the film rights to Thunderball, which is how we ended up with Never Say Never Again. Something about Fleming having a co-author on that book, and both selling their individual film rights to separate companies.

I need to track down my copy of The James Bond Encyclopedia. It's in storage somewhere.

Mean as a snake too!

It has been many years since I read any of the books, and I only read a few of them, but I do remember Bond's character being at least borderline psycopathic in them. And the tone was darker too... there was the extended, brutal torture scene in Casino Royale, for example. I still shudder when I remember that.

I had to go look up the story on IMDb...

Kevin McClory, Ian Fleming and Jack Whittingham collaborated on an original story and screenplay for what would have been the very first 007 film, entitled "James Bond, Secret Agent". McClory reportedly wanted Richard Burton to play James Bond. For whatever reasons, the movie was never made. Fleming had previously cannibalized plots prepared for two other abandoned Bond spin-off projects, a newspaper comic strip and a television series, for 007 novels, and similarly turned this one into his novel "Thunderball". However, in this case his right to do so was not so clear. When Albert R. Broccoli bought film rights to the Bond novels from Fleming, McClory initiated legal action. Although this production is a fairly faithful adaptation of the published novel, McClory's suit resulted in only the earlier screenplay being credited as source material. McClory's producer credit is probably just another term of the settlement.
