Favorite Conservative Movies?
Posted on 05/04/2005 2:51:42 PM PDT by rogermonroe
I'm a liberal but growing increasingly disenchanted with the left. I'm also a movie fan. I'm looking for a list of the movies most beloved by conservatives, movies that support conservative ideals, films that make a good argument for conservatism. I figured this was the place to go. If you were making such a list, what would be on it? Rambo? Red Dawn? What?
TOPICS: Music/Entertainment; TV/Movies
KEYWORDS: conservative; fave; favflix; favmovies; favorite; flicks; flix; movie; movies; pix; popcorn

One that liberals abhor the most is The 10 Commandments.

There is a line stated by Sam Wise in on of the films,"There are some things are worth fighting for."
All three films are full of profound wisdom if you listen closely.

Lord of the Rings: Acknowledgment of the existence of evil, and a willingness to fight against it; that there is honor in self-sacrifice; that there is something bigger in life than oneself; heroic courage; heroic leadership; suggestion of a God behind all things.

To: rogermonroe
It promotes standing up to evil (the Bush/Rohan/Gondor way)instead of kissing up to it (the Wormtongue/Chirac/Kerry way).

Also, it promotes the concept of limited government by making the all-powerful One Ring an object of great evil. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

While not meant to be a conservative movie, I think all conservatives love "Dr. Strangelove." Maybe it's the cavalier attitude toward nuclear war. :-)
