Friday, May 13, 2005

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Dodgeball Day!

Subbie Slip has given her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs to xs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

RULES: You must use the WFTD in a sentence for an A. For a + after your “A,” you must bring in a link of the word usage or something funny, a poem or some prose that will elucidate the word for us.

If you need to know how to link, come to the Subbie’s desk in the front of the class.

My hands are like boards. Xs is going to take over, so be nice. Otherwise, my boardlike hands will beat all y'alls over the head. So sue me.

First? Top Ten?

In before the word?

"My stereo's broken," said Tom, monophonically.

I posted your name as the subbie today, but it wouldn't take it.

Thanks again, xs.

I'll be in later on to make sure the class is behaving.

I like the two posted earlier so much I seldom use others. The old standby, "to ralph" is my usual choice if going shorthand. "Blowing chunks" gets used occassionally, but too often gets met with "Who is Chunks?"
