A Solution to the Filibuster problem (Vanity)

Posted on 05/24/2005 9:05:31 AM PDT by Cubs Fan

I think many of us have complaints today, but I have a solution that I humbly submit to you.

I urge that all republican potential donors take any money they would have give to the RNC and give it to the primary opponents of the sickening seven-

Lincoln Chaffee of Rhode Island Mike DeWine of Ohio Susan Collins of Maine Lindsey Graham of South Carolina John McCain of Arizona John W. Warner of Virginia Olympia J. Snowe of Maine

And should any of the sickening seven win their primaries give money to their democratic opponents. That way perhaps some day a real conservative could come along and win the seat.

The way I see it, they offer nothing positive, all they do is harm the republican party and help the democrats. So IMO That should be the base's biggest priority these fake republicans need to be thrown out of the senate.

The solution is to make them do a REAL FILIBUSTER

Make them stand there 24hours a day, 7 days a week, until they are ready to give up the floor.

I don't understand why they aren't doing that already. No one seems to address it either. Are they just a bunch of girly men?

Instead of giving the money to the Rats, why not just donate the money to a real conservative 3rd party, like the American Independence Party or Constitution Party? Then we would get REAL conservative politicians to represent us.

I would refocus that effort - you aren't going to get anybody more conservative from Maine or Rhode Island - thus it's more likely to result in liberals taking those seats and decreasing the majority (moving further away from the objectives). On the other hand Senators like Warner and PARTICULARLY McCain + Limpy Graham have NO EXCUSE except their desire to pander to the liberals & can / should be challenged.

I like your suggestion except for the above. Give your money instead to the Constitution party which is the only truly conservative party out there.

My letter to the RNC and RNSC, with copies to each of the Slimey Seven:

For the past several months I have been returning RNC and RNSC solicitation letters with a note saying "Not one dime until ALL of President Bush's judicial nominees are confirmed." I donated to the RNC and the RNSC during the past election cycle in order to help strengthen the GOP majority in the US Senate so that President Bush could get his judicial nominees confirmed. However, even though the GOP now has a 55-45 majority, we are still unable to get these well-qualified nominees confirmed and on the bench where they are sorely needed.

Last night's "compromise" was the last straw for me. It is an outrage that only Owens, Pryor and Brown will get a guaranteed up-or-down vote. It appears that Saad and Meyer have been thrown overboard. This is unacceptable!

I will no longer support the RNC or the RNSC. While I understand that these organizations support outstanding GOP candidates like Mel Martinez, John Thune, Jon Kyl and Pete Sessions, I cannot stand to see any of my money going to support turncoat candidates like John McCain, Lindsey Graham, John Warner, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Mike DeWine and Lincoln Chafee.

Please remove me from your mailing list.

I will continue to support solid Republican candidates with financial contributions. Please understand, however, that I will do so directly, rather than through organizations that provide financial support to candidates who do not vote in my best interest.

Additionally, I will support and donate to any candidate running against McCain, Graham, Warner, Snowe, Collins, DeWine, and Chafee. This means in BOTH the primary and general elections - even if it means supporting a Democrat (we'll be no worse off, and I'll at least know what to expect from them when they're in office).

POSITIVELY WONDERFUL I could not say it better, only wish I had thought of it first! I have already told the RNC that I would no longer contribute, until they LEAD. Maybe if enough of us do exactly what you have done, they'll grab these RINO's go-nads and squeeze!

Rush is giving his solution now and I agree.

He says the 48 Repubs who didn't agree to this should say "NO DEAL" and go ahead and put the constitutional option on the floor and bring up the other nominations.

IOW, put the cockroach repubs on the spot and go for it.

I think this is what should happen. If someone could post the Rush transcript on this point, that would be great.

I am listening to Rush also, a fantastic idea. I e-mailed Frist and told him the exact thing then.

And I suppose the Constitution Party Chairman Ed McGarr never really then made it to the Utah House of Representatives because he is a loser by your estimation. People like you need to quit being so obtuse and open your mind up to the political options we have out there. What is your great idea? Give the money to the Rats or another RINO?

Rush is right... as far as I know Frist hasn't agreed to this.

Let's just ram all the nominees through the Senate.

The 48 Repubs. should not allow these scum 7 to call the shots, and Bush should also step in and assert his authority.

First our party becomes friendly to illegals to MAYBE get a few Latino votes and now this? We've all been betrayed. It's time for the "extremists" to take over. They've alienated more people than they've brought to the party.

The "Slimy Seven" need to go. Hands down and case closed. Especially Chaffee. That little fucking worm makes me want to vomit. I liked McCain at one time, being a vet myself. Now I say the hell with him. Snowe and Collins are in my sister state of Maine and didn't do anything when Gov. Baldacci made it a sanctuary state for illegals. I don't know enough about the others, but I guess now I don't need to. '06 is going to be real interesting, not to mention '08.

Most of all I blame Sen. Frist. What a great leader to actually let this happen under his watch with no regard whatsoever for how "undocumented" (read:unelected) Republicans feel.

Is the Constitutional/Nuclear option permanently shelved, or can it still be brought out as long as there's a majority?

Unfortunately, 48 is still less than 50, so unless Bill Frist wants to embarrass himself further, he might want to hold off on that.

While many appear frustrated with McCain today, on this thread and others, the problem here in no uncertain terms is Bill Frist. If Frist wouldn't have been such a namby-pamby about bringing these nominations forward, moderate Republicans and Democrats wouldn't have had five months to put a deal together. Bill Frist has created an enormous leadership vacuum in the U.S. Senate. Is it any wonder that others stepped in to develop a solution they found more to their liking?

Frist was too busy posing for holy pictures and running for president to get the ball across the goal line. And when he fumbled, the moderates took the ball and ran it into the other end zone.

So many people today seem to be in denial about the fact that it was Frist's lack of effective leadership on this issue within his own caucus that produced yesterday's outcome. And it humors me that others posting would rather have an ideologically pure, 46 member minority than a 55 member majority that isn't perfect but is probably far better than a Democratic alternative.

And really, what authority does Bush have here? Like it or not, this is hardly a front-burner issue with mainstream voters. This whole issue is the domain of fringe groups on both sides.

Bush himself has been a compromiser through his entire presidency. 4 1/2 years in and the guy has yet to veto a single bill. What makes you think he's going to strut into the Capitol and start throwing his weight around now? He's never put the Congress in its place on *any* issue, and now a portion of his base is going to be left screaming as a result.

You're ahead of the curve. Rush doesn't usually urge people to call/write etc., but he just did urge a caller/the rest of us to email/call Frist to go ahead with an up/down vote anyway.
