Bolton Vote???

Anyone know when Senator Bill Frist will ask for a vote on cloture again for Bolton? Supposively we have the votes now, but I am just wondering when he will actually call for the vote again.

Good vanity post. I have been wondering the same thing - - why does there seem to be NOTHING going on in the Senate? What happened to Janice Rogers Brown and the rest of the judges? Everything seems to be - - - dead.

Brown's cloture vote is scheduled for noon tom'w...after that, it's Pryor's turn...later in the week, Bolton's up.

The failed cloture vote is under a Motion to Reconsider. There is no definite time in which a Motion to Reconsider comes up for a vote, so it is going to be handled when Frist decides to bring it up.

Anybody's guess as to when it comes up, but I'd say shortly after the votes on Brown and Pryor. Also, 3 of the 4 nominees for the 6th Circuit, plus Griffith, should be fairly straightforward in the Senate. Griffin, McKeague and Griffith are mentioned on the Senate's Executive Calendar as "to be handled" as soon as Frist and Reid agree to a time. Just the same, I expect Bolton will be taken up before any other judicial nominations become the order of business.

I could be wrong on that - at some point, the DEMs are going to push on refusing to vote for a nominee. I'd like to see that happen on Bolton, so Frist can go COnstitutional Nuclear Byrd on a nomination for other than a judicial office. I prefer the broader precedent - no use of cloture to deny a vote for ANY nomination.

Thanks.
I don't care about Pryor, though. If the Repubs want to throw somebody over, that's the one. But that's the ONLY one.

100% agree. I don't understand why they don't do it for all nominees. After all the clause in the constitution that guarantees up or down votes refers to all nominees, not just judicial nominees. I guess because as much as filibustering judicial nominees has never been done before, filibustering executive nominees (not allowing the President to have his own people working for him) is even more absurd. That is why as much as they might threaten it, they won't filibuster Bolton. Plus, I think it would be harder for Frist to get 50 votes to outlaw all executive nominee filibustering. Who knows, the Senate is just messed up.

Pryor, however, won't be thrown over...as he's part of the "deal"...
