Regarding seeing Depp - to each their own. I will not see him in any movie. Which brings me to a different subject.

I have been hearing a lot of discussion concerning the falling revenues of films for this year. Many people give various reasons - DVD's, high ticket prices, high prices for snacks, bad movies, etc. What no one seems to want to say is is it because of the actors and actresses themselves and what they say.

According to the National Association of Theater Owners - http://www.natoonline.org/statisticstickets.htm - the average price for a ticket is 6.21. Bewitched opens at 20.1 million. That's a little over 3 million people who went and saw it. This past weekend, Batman Begins took in 27.6 million. That's only slighly over 4 million and 400 thousand people - and how many of them were repeaters like I was this weekend? Now granted, the stars of these two films have not bad mouthed America - as far as I know - yet how many have done so in recent years? Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Susan Sarandon, George Clooney, Woody Allen, etc. Now, how many people voted for George Bush in the last election? Over 61 million people. You cannot run a business when you insult the customer base! Batman Begins has the "fiance" of Tom Cruise in it. How many people say "I'm not giving my money to a bunch of Scientologists?" The American public are not going to the movies because they are tired of supporting spoiled brats who bad-mouth the very country that made them famous. That is my opinion.

That's basically why I don't go to movies, especially when I can enjoy the ones I do want to see at home in just a few months. While it's easy for me to not spend money on Tom Cruise, George Clooney and Woody Allen; Susan Sarandon and Johnny Depp would get my $$ via DVD rental. Of the little talent left in Hollyweird, these have the most, IMHO.

I don't consciously boycott entertainers (except maybe the Dixie Chicks, but that was a nat'l movement) because you might as well cut yourself off from all popular entertainment, and I'm not willing to do that...

But I think there's some subliminal stuff going on...like how suddenly Julia Roberts started seeming kind of boring and scrawny in Ocean's 11, and like she'd had some butcher after her face that seemed to leave her with a skull-like appearance. Just didn't seem like the luminous girl I remembered from Sleeping with the Enemy. Was it because of her obnoxious political remarks? Maybe.

Or maybe we're getting sick and tired of actors and their passionate belief in some kind of divinity that celebrity confers on them. I get as sick of that as I do their stupid political opinions.

Yes, I'm sure plenty of people boycotted Batman Begins because an actress in it is engaged to someone who is a Scientologist < /sarcasm >. Really, the stuff some people find to be preoccuppied with amazes me.

agree...several things are at work here...

high prices...for 3 people, might as well wait and buy the dvd

popcorn and soda stickups

cramped seating...cell phones, rude people, babies, etc.

silly scripts, tv and movie remakes, etc.

and of course, idiotic and out of touch celebs.

how many have gone on USO tours? they'll be at tsunami relief and LiveAid concerts...but won't go support our guys and gals protecting them from the Islamic barbers.
