Started getting all nostalgic just visiting the Idlewild website.

It was PGH winters that used to kill me. Unnngh.

It's a shame about so many of the old time amusement parks either falling into disrepair or being gobbled up by the conglomerates.

I did come up with a bright spot caused by the broken ankle and got a chuckle out of hubby - I know they won't be calling on me to be a chaperone for the kids' field trip to the amusement park in Ocean City, MD next week :)

idlewild is a beautiful wooded setting for an amusement park. the rides are a bit too tame for my kids at their present ages, but a few years back we would meet the cousins there instead, bc Storybook Forest, MisterRogers Neighborhood and Idlewild are great for smaller kids. Now the majority of them like the big roller coasters. The Jackrabbit was till their fave of the coasters though and that was there for my school picnics as was the Racer, also still there.

According to this site:

Kennywood installed its first dark ride, the float-through Old Mill way back in 1901, a year before the park even erected its first coaster (Fred Ingersoll's "Three-Way, Figure-Eight Toboggan," added in 1902). During its more than 90 years of operation, the Old Mill underwent a number of name and design changes, variously called the "Fairyland Floats" and "Hardheaded Harold's Horrendously Humorous Haunted Hideaway," but it currently operates with its original name and still offers a languorous, six-minute trip past several illuminated scenes and through a number of completely dark stretches (though it was never dubbed a "Tunnel of Love," it might as well have been, wink, wink...).

I'm going to hie myself off to work-I want to go by the office of a friend and former co-worker of mine who now has a private counseling practice and ask her some questions-I heard the same story of the loon's break with reality on Saturday night from both her son and Charles Manson eyes, almost word for word. I can't believe that two people would make up bizarre stuff like that, especially when one is a 17 year old horrified and disgusted by what his mother said and did. From that and our own dealings with her on Saturday night, hubby and I think she is a danger to herself and others and needs to be convinced to commit herself to a psychological/psychiatric facility if at all possible. I want to ask my friend what recourse there is if she refuses to go voluntarily, because this has gone beyond the merely annoying-she physically attacked both her son and her fiance with a piece of broken glass in front of me, hubby and another neighbor, then tried to attack her fiance's horse with the same shard of glass. She also stabbed herself in the wrist and arm with it when her son and fiance tried to restrain her. I think she has had a major psychotic episode and it is not getting better-there is likely to be someone seriously injured if some drastic action is not taken.

I think we're going to ride out there sometime this summer. The Goth population is pretty low at her park, as opposed to what I've heard about King's Island.

I don't know about fun... But nobody was seriously hurt (a couple of the instigators got small nicks on the foreheads when they face-planted into the bumper of a car), so all's well that ends well. The wait staff was appreciative of my efforts (one guy bartending and two waitresses - and nobody really keeping things under control). Thankfully, there were a couple of other right-minded middle aged men to help out, too!

Oh well... Now I know what Toby Keith's talking about in that song! LOL

i have actually been there. you would be disappointed HD, there are no rides featuring boobs in any way shape or form.

Thanks - as I mentioned to T5 on the other thread - it seems my ankle is about the only part of my foot/leg that does NOT hurt.........

See my tag line. ;) No, it was okay. We did get to the Blue Bell Creamery for a tour and that is always a treat. And we saw a mini horse farm in Brenham and the bats in Austin. We even went to a pearl farm here in TN on the way home. It turns out their biggest business is providing seeds for pearls in Japan, using parts of mussel shells.

i just heard that song yesterday and thought of it when you said that! i was stuck in the car with xshub at the radio controls and he listens to country. i do love me some toby though, he's hot.
