GRENOBLE, France (AP) - Jan Ullrich was cleared Monday to stay in the Tour de France after X-rays revealed he had not broken any bones when he fell during the race's ninth stage.
Ullrich, the 1997 champion considered by many to be Lance Armstrong's chief rival, fell in a descent during Sunday's stage and damaged the left side of his rib cage. He continued racing and finished 29th, in a pack with Armstrong.
After his X-rays came back negative, the German rider went for a training ride, T-Mobile team spokesman Luuc Eisenga said.
Ullrich is currently eighth overall...

Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my Tour de France 2005 list.
I guess Jan Ullrich is OK and isn't out of the TDF after all (I'm glad to hear that). And so the "mano-a-mano" (Phil Liggett's words) with Lance continues...
Offday bump!
Well, I'm either old and/or "out of it". I don't recognize the guy in that pic! ;-)
Lars Ulrich, liberal, whiny, overrated drummer from Metallica. And I say that as a fan!
Not Lars - Jan!
You left out self-important. Tho' maybe that was just assumed as coming along with the liberal description...
Yup-goes along with liberal.
*sigh*
So many of these rockers are liberal and whiny (and probably overrated) aren't they? :-(
Thank goodness for the "off day"... I have some catching up to do! ;-)
Yeah, but in the metal world there's actually a lot of conservatives and libertarians. Another Metallica member, James Hetfield, is quite conservative but also kind of anarchist. Good friend of Ted Nugent though if that tells ya anything.
Other right-wingers in the hard rock and metal world (if I say "confirmed" the person has actually said or admitted their politics, if it says "unconfirmed" that's just suspicion based on things they've said, or their song lyrics):
Sammy Hagar (confirmed)
David Lee Roth (unconfirmed)
Eddie Van Halen (unconfirmed)
Alice Cooper (confirmed)
CC DeVille of Poison (confirmed) [not really 'metal' but hair metal]
Bret Michaels Poison (unconfirmed) [not really 'metal' but hair metal]
All of Iced Earth (unconfirmed but very likely)
All of Slayer (unconfirmed but very likely)
Ted Nugent (confirmed)
Kid Rock (confirmed) [not really metal]
Yngwie Malmsteen (unconfirmed)
I met the band at a meet-and-greet and then an after-concert backstage party back around 1990. Lars was the only one who was an obvious SOB.
Left out Johnny Ramone - confirmed and unfortunately, RIP.
Although not a Ramones fan, I liked him as a person, well spoken and quite intelligent (as most conservatives are). He was one of the good guys. RIP.
Please add me to the ping list
I would say very likely with Iced Earth. Trashed Naom Chomsky big time!
Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin almost never miss a chance to sing the praises of Jan Ullrich during their Tour commentary, and yet Ullrich never seems to perform at the level they keep suggesting he's able to. Ullrich cannot beat a healthy and accident-free Lance Armstrong; that's just a fact.
