(it's a nice gesture, Harry)

Not. The nasty man up the street has no children that I know of. If he has any, they don't associate with him.
The little girl next door lives with her grandparents. We all get along very well.
The ugly part is that I do not feel that I can ever invite her into my house unless she is accompanied by one of her grandparents (her parents being, shall we say, somewhat "irresponsible").
She sometimes comes over looking for some trivial BS donation -- which I will give her -- but I will not let her into my house. No can do. Not by herself. I'll write out the check while she waits at the door.

I don't consider it to be a gesture. It's just something I want to do. She really is a very sweet little girl.
She is going to like the stuff I got her.
