Smoking among our soldiers
Juky 21, 2005 | self / vanity

I have been concerned that so many of our soldiers seem to smoke. This includes the woman at the Abu Gaibe (sp?) imprisonment camp.

Don't you think that it would be better if this were restricted, at least to when they they are not on duty?

That way, it would be be safer, both for them and for those around them.

I just finished reading this thread.

You have a heck of a lot of nerve to DARE to call smokers nasty..............as some one else suggested, your totalaatarian attitude will be very welcome at DU.

When did I call smokers nasty??? Smoking is a nasty habit but that does not mean that smokers themselves are nasty.

In your own words..............

None of which has anything whatsoever to do with you advocating the use of force to "protect" people from themselves.
Yea, the height of bazaar, that people should not be allowed to smoke non stop while on duty. I am beginning to wonder if some of you militant smokers don't have other psychological issues than being addicted to cigarettes. You seem to be an angry and nasty group. Don't you have anything better to do than to champion a bad habit?

Nah, in fact I think the army should give them free smokes. Why not?

I said you SEEM to be an angry and nasty bunch. If you were to go by how they condemn and carry on on this thread because I think the military has the right to have a rule against smoking while on duty I think this is how this group on a whole SEEMS.

Had you said it that way in any of your original flame provoking posts, I would most likely agree with you........but you didn't....you talked about what people should and should not be "allowed" to do while working.

You brought the comments upon youself with the tone you took in your very first post, and went down hill from there.

To any of you who wish to keep posting to me on this thread:

Smoking is a dirty, nasty, deadly habit. If you wish to use your own free volition to continue smoking that is up to you. You should quit if you want to do the right thing, but again that is up to you. You have the freedom to smoke but you also have the moral duty to quit. If you don't like that then ignore it. You have probably been ignoring it for years anyway.

The military has a right to decide personal should not smoke while on duty.

On the whole you have "put words in my mouth" and exercised great condemnation. As far as I am concerned you have been a pretty nasty bunch to chat with. I think it is your addicting habit and "need" to justify it that has caused your bad attitude.

I hope you all quit and I also hope the best for you. Please enjoy this thread without me as I have spent enough time and effort trying to convince you that the military has the right and is right for not allowing smoking while on duty. You have a different opinion and are entitled to it. Like Richard Nixon said "You won't have Bellflower to kick around anymore, because, gentlemen, this is my last post on this thread." Good night and God Bless.

Poor baby - you can't handle the fact that you brought the nastiness to this thread and so you run away...........sure doesn't say very much about your "convictions," does it?

Who you think you are telling other people what their "moral duty" is, totally baffles me. Your moral duty is to mind your own business.

Actually it is probably for the better that you leave this thrad...............your kind is not welcome in these discussions.
