Worst vehilces you've ever owned?

My top two are both Volkswagens, back in the 60's. One was a Karman Gia, the other was a Squareback. My, they were awful. I tried to like them, but I couldn't.

Third would be a Chevy Suburban, also in the 60's or possibly the early 70's. I used to joke that I could see things falling off it in the rear-view mirror as we drove down the road. Still, it had its place in the overall scope of things.

Best would be a 1996 Ford Ranger. That was a great truck. If I hadn't wrecked it, I would have kept it forever.

My new Toyota Tundra is not as good. It's okay. I don't like the controls. I should have shopped more.

My GEO Tracker is pretty good. I can't figure out how to set the clock, but it works pretty well otherwise.

Ever drive 1000 miles with no brakes?

Yep. From Dallas to Denver. What a nightmare.

My first car was a 1968 Ford Fairlane. Inline 6 cyl. with an automatic transmission.

One cold day, the block froze, and I found someone who could swap engines for cheaper than I could rebuild the original engine.

What a mistake!

I was just a kid and didn't know any better, but the other engine was a Ford, yes, but not built for the Fairlane. So the moron welded in the motor mounts.

Next..... /Duh! The transmission would not match up with that motor, so moron finds a good 3 speed manual to install.

After many weeks and mucho dinero, I had my car back. Great! But within a few weeks, guess what happens to welded in motor mounts?

Yep. They break.

I can't tell you how many times I had to re-weld those motor mounts in, until I found some universal motor mounts that took.

And even then, because the mounts had slack in them, the engine would torque and shift, and when that happened (often) the clutch linkage slipped off the side of the block. No clutch = No go.

I carried a small floor jack for when that happened. I would climb under the car, base the jack on the inside fender well, jack the engine away about 2 inches, slip the clutch linkage back into place, release the jack, and be back on the road.

Happened way too often.

Man I hated that car, but man I loved that car. My first car; a 1968 Ford Fairlane.

1987 K5 Chevy Blazer. Fell apart completely at 78,000 miles. Pure junk. Expensive too.

LOLOLOL - been there, done that. I busted a road wheel on my BMP once, during a Reforger exercise - well, the commander at Hohenfells had one on display, as a war trophy.

I imagine he was a tad bit upset, when he found it up on blocks, the next day.

Dunno - I was long gone. ;)

1978 Ford Thunderbird... It was the size of the titanic.

I have a 1977 Mercury Cougar, fine car, would like to get it on the road again. Mom got it new in 1977 and we still have it. I love those land yachts, I think some of the best cars were made then although I'm sure many will disagree. B-)

A Buick Electr Stationwagon was the worst piece of junk that we have ever owned, without a doubt. We only had it for three years and when we traded it in, it need about three thousand dollars worth of repairs after already having a new transmission, new radiator, new heater. The airconditioning no longer worked, the electric windows wouldn't go down, the electric seats didn't move, the environmental air pollution thingy was disconnected because it wrecked the carburator (it was an '85). I can't even remember all the parts that we had already replaced. Oh, and the fuel guage didn't work, either. I guess that I didn't mention that it would just shut off sometimes when you went around a corner. It would start up again, but you had to coast to the side of the road and turn the key.

A green Dodge St. Regis. But even that wasn't all that bad of a car.

I had a 1965 version of that truck, 4X4, geared so low 55 mph was a stretch. It was my first vehicle. I'd LOVE to get that one back, it was a beast.

1986 Mercedes 420 SEL.

Must've been built by drunk East Germans.

High maintenance like you wouldn't believe.

This piece of garbarge ('72 Vega) was willed to me by my first wife's Grandfather. Only difference was, it was "puke green" and had no breaks!

That Pinto is stone ugly. My old '72 Vega would rival it though.

see, that was the thing. It got like, 10 miles per gallon - regardless of what was on it/what you were dragging.

I could (and did) make emergency repair with a coathanger...it just ran.

It was a pure piece of crap, but it ran.

When I finally blew it up, on the Penna TPK, I think three cars wrecked into the trees, trying to avoid the flying parts. I was doing 60 - way too fast for the corn thrasher.

Once, in Michigan, the ashtray caught fire - I stopped to put it out with some snow. Then I thought, "What in sam hell am I doing?" The heater hadn't worked in years, and it was the warmest that truck ever got. I kept that fire burning for three hours. LOL.

I have two Ford trucks. 1988 F 150 and a 2001 F 150. Both have been excellent for me.Maybe the cars aren't as good as the trucks.I will buy another one when the 88 goes...

Thank God you didn't have the same Ford experience as I. My Taurus was the first (and last) Ford I'll ever own. Can't say whether the entire Taurus design was flawed or whether I got a lemon.

Bottom line: I won't (can't, really) ever take another chance on a Ford after five-plus years of trouble-free Toyota Camry.

Good luck.
