A live-action film of Transformers will open in U.S. theaters July 4, 2007, DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Pictures and Hasbro, Inc. announced Wednesday.
Steven Spielberg will produce and Michael Bay will direct the script from Alex Kurzman and Roberto Orci, Zap2it.com reported. Kurzman and Orci are the writers on Bay's new feature the Island and on Tom Cruise's upcoming Mission: Impossible III.
The wildly popular Transformer robots were introduced in 1984 and have been adapted for several cartoon programs, toy lines comic books and an animated feature film.
Under the direction of Michael Bay and with Steven Spielberg executive producing, we know that 'Transformers' is going to be the kind of explosive action movie that is perfect for the height of the summer movie season, Jim Tharp, DreamWorks' head of distribution, said. (UPI)

Spielberg? I thought he was done with kiddie movies. For a second there I thought it said Tom Cruise would be in the movie. I wish he'd just stay away.

One of my favorite "Transformers" character was Starscream. I loved the way how he hated being 2nd in command and always wanted to take over (damn I forgot who led the Deceptacons!) job.
BTW, does anyone remember the "Gobots?" LOL

He-man could whup them all. But the A-Team could build a tank out of a junk car, 3 watermelons, and a piece of PVC and run He-man over.

Ironically, in the first image that you posted, the gun that Optimus Prime holds is in fact Megatron in gun mode.
