Owner Says They Were Fighting Over A Bone

SE Portland -- Two pitbulls were shot and killed by Portland Police officers after an apparent attack Saturday afternoon. Witnesses reported seeing three pitbulls fighting in the back yard of a home in the 2200 block of SE 101st Avenue and called 911.

The dog's owner says they were fighting over a bone, and when she tried to intervene one bit her on the arm. Her seven year old daughter was also in the yard at the time. That's when officers fired, killing two of the dogs.

The third was tazered and ran off into the woods. Officers searched for the dog, but were unable to locate it.

No humans were seriously injured in the incident.

No word on whether these were abandoned fighting dogs of former Blazer Quintel Woods.

This breed should be completely exterminated as a species.

Presumably then this is Portland OR, and not ME
(which would be a W... callsign).

> No humans were seriously injured in the incident.

Unfortunate. Until owners are put down along with their
vicious dogs, the problem will continue.

And outlaw semi-automatic pistols, and revolvers, and rifles, and shotguns, and sling-shots and pea-shooters, and swords, cleavers, knives, cars, booze, cigs, rocks, bricks, water...

BTW, I don't like the breed, but it is the dog's owner to manage the animal. Just as I manage my gun collection and 5,000 rounds of ammo.

My husband once received a report from his MPs, just prior to the closing of the nearby school for the day, that a bit bull was loose. He had his MPs shoot the animal. No choice. No complaint ensued from the owner.

Point well made. People are responsible for their pets' actions. Certainly if owners incurred severe penalties (starting with a decade in jail and a $100,000 fine to be garnished from their wages for the rest of their lives until it's paid), they'd be a lot more inclined to take their responsibilities seriously. As it is, they get away with a comparative wrist-slap.

But they're constitutionally protected, whereas pitbulls are not.

Agreed. If you raise a dog to be violent, and it hurts someone, you should be tried for assault. If it kills someone, you should be tried for manslaughter.

My dog likes to take my girlfriend's wallet from her backpack and chew on it. I keep joking that we should train him to do that to other people, and she keeps telling me that we'd be responsible for the thefts. Why should it be any different for injuries?

If you can't control a dog with a tendency for aggressive behavior, then get a different dog. Otherwise, it should be your right to own whatever dog you want. If the penalties for training a dog to hurt someone were equal to penalties for hurting someone yourself, then people would take responsibility and no one would need to call for pit bull extermination.

And the dog infringed upon this woman's second amendment rights! Ha, ha...

The difference if you leave your guns unattened there is zero possibility they will get out of their safe and run around the neighborhood attacking people. At this point I find it more than a little creepy that there is a shocked pit bull running around SE Portland with a bad attitude.

Dog Owner????? Even non-dog owners know you don't take food away from any dog, regardless of species.

To the degree that dogs are the owner's responsibility I agree. But my Barreta 9mm never dug a hole under a fence & escaped only to kill some small child or other hapless human. These things have minds of their own. My gun doesn't.

Exactly. My 9mm Sig Sauer P226 never did that either.

So maybe I missed something. You agree with the idea of outlawing and/or destroying pit bulls, or you don't?
