Murder Gets 25 Years

Posted on 08/20/2005 5:05:44 PM PDT by discipler

Living in Minnesota, I'm no longer surprised at the punishments be handed out in the courts. Today's news is that Clarence Dunn Sr. was found guilty of killing his girlfriend with a hammer. For murdering her, this formerly violent felon, Clarence received a 25.5 year sentence and could get out in 17 years. The judges and legislators have learned nothing. The good citizens of tired of the recolving door in the prisons that continues to release violent people. This girl would be alive today if there was justice in the courts. That's my opinion.

Too bad he didn't get the death penalty.

Man Sentenced In Hammer Killing
WCCO News
Aug 20, 2005

St. Paul -- A man who killed his girlfriend with a hammer in her St. Paul apartment is sentenced to 25 and a-half years in prison.

Fifty-year-old Clarence Dunn Sr. of St. Paul pleaded guilty to intentional second-degree murder for killing Cassandra Jane Koochek.

He must serve at least 17 years of his sentence before he is eligible for release.

Authorities said 42-year-old Koochek was struck in the head at least five times before she died.

Dunn had pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in 1995 for stabbing another woman in the throat during a fight in his St. Paul apartment. He was sentenced to four years and four months in prison in that case.

Thanks for the link. I don't get the thinking here. I'm sure that 25 years is intolerably long to the person who is doing the time, but for the victim and her family, and for the future victims, these sentences are not just.

This is what I find fitting...

Unfortunately, I was born 150 years too late.

I don't either. The article said he "pleaded guilty to intentional second-degree murder". To me, intentional means it was premedidated and should have been murder in the first degree. I guess he must have got a plea bargain. I hope he doesn't ever get paroled. He's fifty now so he'd be 75 when the 25 years are up.

... for the victim and her family, and for the future victims, these sentences are not just.

I wouldn't be happy with it.

Well, after all, he didn't shoot her, and, so, legally, she is only somewhat dead!
