One of my more vivid memories growing up was sitting up all night while Hurricane Camille blew through my hometown. She'd hit the coast with top winds at about 200 mph, and was still doing 125 when she came through, almost 70 miles inland. My Mama, two younger sisters, one older brother two dogs and I were crammed into the hallway in the middle of our house, just off the kitchen. Daddy was sitting at the breakfast table, just next to a pair of windows. About 3 in the morning the wind picked up to a howl, and Daddy slowly scooted his chair back away from the windows about a foot. That's the only nervousness he showed all night.

Heh heh! My dad paced and drank coffee. The house shook and the lightening was almost continuous.

I don't remember the name of this storm, but it had to be in the early 70s...

I'm gonna see if I can find out...
