I agree...and to make matters worse, they made extraordinary statements prior to the disaster about how prepared they were; that they had a plan (just like Kerry)
Why didn't they BUS people out of New Orleans with the transit system when they issued the mandatory evac?..Even if they didn't get everyone, they could have gotten more people out who didn't have cars, etc.

Initally, they thought they had dodged the bullet again...util the levees broke. The Coast Guard has been magnificent..as has the National Guard..the the leadership has been a day late and dollar short.

Hasn't the threat of the 'BIG ONE' been hanging around since Camille? Shouldn't evacuation routes and plans been in place and just have to be activated when the threat was apparent? Haven't the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center refined their science to predicting the landfall to within 30 miles.

And just a question that maybe someone can answer. When they showed the traffic leaving NO, the inbound lanes were vacant...why didn't they open both sides of the road and have all roads exiting out?
