MOM OF THE YEAR!
Email ^ | 9/6/05 | Email

This is CLASSIC. This son was caught stealing and his mother made him stand outside with a sign that read, "I AM 13 YEARS OLD, I STEAL, I WANT TO GO TO PRISON TO BE WITH DADDY". She gets a nomination for MOM of the YEAR for this one.

I'm not sure I would have done what this mother did, but I applaud her for doing something. And I love the way she's staying right by her son. He should know that he has a mom who loves him and will critique his behavior and love him at his side. Good mom!

Most kids steal, at some time or another. It is the response that dictates how you handle it in the future. this mom is making him acknowledge that what he did was wrong, and that is worth any amount of licks with a belt. They'd probaly lock her up for child abuse for that, anyway.

She may be the only parent (doesn't say) and can't say "wait 'til your father gets home"!

I remember my middle son stealing comic books in the grocery store when he was around 4 years old. I made him take them right back and apologize. Now he's in prison. AS A CORRECTIONS OFFICER. It's a struggle to keep kids honest. They're born with a sinful nature and you have to keep fighting that nature.

Hahaha.. that is GREAT!! I used to tell my kids that their words or actions said such thing - though not quite as bad as that. But I never thought to make them hold a sign up and tell others. What a great way to drive home a very serious point. Better to hold up a carboard sign one day than to sit in jail later on.

Thanks for the great ping.

Hey, I just had an idea - I should make a sign for the infractions of my son and his best friend I told you about! Make them stand at the end of the driveway with signs. One could hold one saying

"HI! We're 4 & 5 years old and we like to break things! We want to be sent to our rooms forever!"

while the other's lists the destruction -

"This month we've

1. bashed a wiffle ball bat to death
2. gotten countless toys stuck up in trees
3. broken 3 wooden train track pieces
4. tried to break a ceiling fan with projectile objects
5. poked 3 large holes in 2 window screens
6. displaced every bit of sand from sandbox into yard
7. thrown dozens of crabapples onto the roof (and probably into the gutters), into the yard, on the porch, into the garage
8. scattered mulch all over every cement surface available
9. peed in the cat's litter box
10. practiced the fine art of using mild bathroom words inappropriately (and finding it hilarious while no one else does)."

:)

Actually I'd better go check on them - they've been left unattended in the back yard for all of ten minutes. I expect to hear breaking glass at any moment.

LOL!

What characters! Sounds like they might benefit from the fine art of learning how to pick up mulch and sand and crabapples since they seem to have mastered the spread of it! I would like to see the picture of those signs though!

After I read this, I remember what I did when my oldest son started the potty mouth thing with one of his younger sisters. Nothing I did to him worked until I finally did what I thought I would never do - wash out a mouth with soap. Picking the drama queen that he was (still is to some extent), I finally rubbed that soap bar on his tongue a little bit. I never had to do it to my daugher because he exaggerated so much about how awful it was! I never really had a problem with either of them after that. ;)

On the back of the signs, maybe the boys will write - "Mommy keeps telling God that when she wanted Him to make her more like Him --patient, tolerant and perservering, she didn't want Him to do it through us!

Just remember. "This too shall pass". Now repeat that over and over and over!
