I heard multiple reports of a woman getting on a transport bus out of New Orleans. She handed the infant to someone on the bus to hold while she fetched her suitcase. Several people butted in line and the bus driver closed the door and drove off.
I have not heard if this woman and child have been reunited. This incident just broke my heart.
Do you have specifics like a name, date and location where this happened? If not, chalk it up to ugly rumor mill.
It happened on the second day of evacuations from the overpass in NO. Several cable channels reported this over the next few days.
I saw the initial story. Can't remember what network. The infant's name was Blaze, and he had a prominent birth mark on his forhead in the shape of a blaze. Haven't seen a follow-up.
Drudge has a link on his site to "orphans" of the storm.
You might want to check that and see if she's mentioned.
One thing that struck me is that they don't list a lot of info about some of the kids who are clearly old enough to know info about themselves. Maybe the fault of the paper for just not asking.
Oh, I'm so glad that she got some attention, at least, from the authorities.

If you can find it in print somewhere - start with that - e-mail the staff reporter and include a copy of the initial report.

What kind of person does that? Was the infant a puppy or something?

Call me a cynic, but I worry of this in the necessary rush to help families relocate to a home. Kim Commando last week warned evacuees to be especially wary of answering offers from folks willing to take them in. She read one offer from a site that said "I just want a baby or a very young child who has been separated from the family".
Don't get me started. LOL The reporters have spent more time on this than actual reuniting of families.
According to msnbc, baby Blaze, and Mom Ann Perez were reunited in Houston on September 2nd.
In San Antonio, I know that Angel Flight has done some reunions of separated parents and children. Also somewhere I saw a headline that only one child (I'm assuming of the bus/plane evacuees) had not yet been reunited with family. If I find that url again, I'll post it.
It is the same one, unless it happened more than once. I don't know how it turned out, and I was watching so many news channels last week I have no idea where I saw it or heard it.
