I think the Presidential pooches having been keeping a low profile, after some negative reaction to his carrying the puppy as he emerged from Air Force One right after the Deluge of New Orleans. I heard one caller ranting about it on a (black) radio call-in show -- felt it looked like he wasn't taking the situation seriously enough, when he was carting around a cute puppy. I sort of agree, especially since many of the displaced people were grieving pets they'd had to leave behind. They just didn't need to see this.
