The al Qaeda leadership in Iraq....
....continues to
suffer important losses and the US media continues to ignore them as they glorify the useless violence of the suicide missions, which are done purely for propaganda value and accomplish no important goals.
The coalition keeps taking out
the top leadership forcing the terrorists to improvise and replace constantly. How much longer they can keep this up is an open question, but the noose is tightening and they are being crowded into smaller and smaller areas of Iraq.
UPDATE: The Centcom release reveals that a "close associate" led coalition forces to Azzam.
Multiple intelligence sources and corroborating information from a close associate of Abu Azzam led Coalition and Iraqi security forces to the terrorist safe house where the al Qaeda in Iraq leader was hiding. A combined operation was conducted with the intent of capturing the wanted terrorist; however, Abu Azzam fired on the forces, and their return fire killed the al Qaeda in Iraq leader.
Intelligence has been increasingly effective as the Iraqi forces have come online. Iraqi citizens have been more willing to provide information on opposing forces, their operations and their materiel.
As this continues, you will see the collapse of the "insurgency".

Thanks for the ping.
Only the MSM can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Our Forces, all branches, all MOSs, working together with friendly forces are carrying the fight to the bad guys everywhere and kicking the snot out of them.
Think how far we would be if the press, not getting on our side, would simply tell the truth.

The war against the terrorists is a war for public perception. It is not a conventional war where the the terrorists are executing a military plan to take and control strategic positions. It is not a war the terrorists can win if the international news media decided one day to stop broadcasting their propaganda.
The victory on the war on terror will be won in the board rooms of every news media outlet in the world. Until then, the military will continue to strive for a conventional victory against an unconventional enemy, and such a victory will only come slowly by way of attrition. But the loss of life and the tragedies of war would be shortened if only the news media would get behind us, and stop providing the enemy with free propaganda.

If the dirtbags were going to do a "Tet" one would think the best time for that is now, the runup to the constitution vote (if not before now). It seems they already are going max effort every day, rather than saving their effort for some kind of a Tet that they would dream would result in someone like Mother Sheehan dictating our foreign policy.

I'd like to know how many of our people are indirect casualties because of the press's irresponsible action.
