No matter what strides the new generation of open-source companies make, they all owe a big debt to Linus Torvalds. In 1991 the Finnish programmer started Linux as a project at the University of Helsinki. Fourteen years later the reverberations are still being felt. Thanks to support from giant companies such as Dell Computer (DELL ) and IBM (IBM ), Linux is now commonplace on big corporate servers -- posting 11 consecutive quarters of growth, according to market researcher IDC.

haha, from the title I thought it was some sick joke regarding his child...
Didn't even get past the second paragraph before finding a lie.
And...your refutation of this claim is what, exactly?
You've provided about as much proof for your statement as they have theirs.
Quote "the facts tell a different story. The Unix business is strong and growing, and Unix servers remain the computers of choice for businesses that need high-powered computing."

Quote "Microsoft Windows servers showed strong growth, as revenues grew 14.3% and unit shipments grew 10.9% year over year."

Yet....(Your second link)
Quote "Microsoft Windows servers showed strong growth, as revenues grew 14.3% and unit shipments grew 10.9% year over year."
This bears out...(Same Link)
However...(Same Link)
We can play the link game all night long. What remains is that Linux is making very strong headway (45% revenue growth -vs- Microsoft's 14%. VERY impressive when you consider that no-one really took it seriously until just recently), Windows is forced to be competitive and Unix is slowing.
You can do whatever you want. I already proved the claim in the article was an outright lie, beyond that, I could care less how you want to spin it now.
The very article you posted (#2) contradicts you.
No it didn't, I proved proprietary sever sales are not going down, which is what the original article claimed. Revenue is the primary indicator of sales strength, and has been for years. Now you're lying in defense of liars.
Sounds to me like one variant in particular is getting more than its' fair share of business - And it isn't the proprietary variant.
Also, cut out the "liar" bullshit. It tends to diminish your arguments.
No it doesn't, since that's what we're talking about, people trying to lie saying proprietary sales are down when they are up, in at least one case that is not disputable whatsoever. And you trying to change the subject about Linux sales growing has nothing to do with it.
I guess if if it weren't for Linux and the OpenSource community, FR wouldn't be around.
Good Lord, man!
If Linux revenues are growing at a disproportionately high rate, compared to the proprietary vendors, THEN THE INITIAL ASSERTION IS CORRECT! Especially when you consider a shrinking market.
ROFL, the market isn't shrinking, read those links I already gave. I guess the reason the Linux people lie so much is they can't count, so they don't know they're lying? I'm giving you an out here, LOL.
Apparently Microsoft shills think using Firefox is like using lampshades made from concentration camp victims...
I take it you do not work daily in this market?
Do not look at 10% growth. Look at the trend. It's *is* going down and has been for a while. Doesn't show any signs of abating either. Several buddies are presently dusting their resumes off and for good reason.
You told me a while back that you were "out of the trenches". It's showing ;)
Sales of proprietary software is not falling, no matter how you want to twist it. It is rising, in the case of Windows, to record levels, every single quarter. You might as well drop the act and deal with it. I'm done with you, anyway.
OS wars are holy wars in their world. Even team redmond sees value in many of the open source tools. Cool tagline, P.
