E.D. Hill reported that Sandy Berger had been stopped for Reckless Driving in Virginia. This violation is more than simple speeding. He was clocked 88 in a 55mph zone. He will stand before the judge who sentenced him for his "pants-gate" plundering and the charge is such that he could do jail time for violating his probation.

As of July 1, 2004, some Virginia DUI / DWI cases require mandatory jail time upon convictions - these cases are termed "Virginia DUI/DWI Enhanced Punishment" cases.

I don't think he originated the concept, but they imply its based on poor vs rich, when I think they mean "connected" vs "un-connected". Its all cronyism and special favors for certain groups, and the rest are victims. Too much cynicism for so early in the morning...

Two days after he was placed on probation last month for taking classified documents, former National Security Adviser Samuel R. "Sandy" Berger was accused of reckless driving in Virginia by police who said he was traveling 88 mph in a 55 mph zone, the Associated Press reports.Yesterday, Mr. Berger appeared before the same federal magistrate who had sentenced him Sept. 8 in the documents case. U.S. Magistrate Deborah Robinson admonished Mr. Berger, and she will decide whether to punish him further.
The traffic offense occurred while Mr. Berger, who served in the Clinton administration, is on a two-year probation handed down as part of his sentence in the documents case.
Mr. Berger is scheduled to appear Oct. 18 in local traffic court in Fairfax County on the reckless-driving ticket.
He was stopped Sept. 10, and two days later he informed the probation office of the U.S. District Court that he had been speeding because he was late to a meeting and was unaware of how fast he was traveling.

Yeah I was reading that on the commuter train this morning, and had to chuckle. Wonder if Brit's going to mention it on "The Grapevine" tonight?

My wife was driving back from South Carolina with my daughter in the front seat and me in the rear.
All the way down to South Carolina and back, once we crossed the Mason-Dixon line my wife was driving like demon on Interstates. She was doing 95 on I-95 (mistook the route marker for speed limit?)
If I drove she got bored and cranky like a little kid, if she drove, I couldn't constrain myself from imploring her to slow down and generally get nervous and fussy so I sat in the back and hoped.
She was operating under two misconceptions:
1.) They actually drove like in the movie, "Smokey and the Bandit" in the South.
2.) Virginia was in the South. (anymore.)
In Arlington, Virginia on I-95 we were pulled over by a very polite but puzzled young state trooper. He told her she was doing 82 miles an hour in a 65 mile zone (during rush hour!) and anything more than 15 mph over the limit is "reckless driving by speed", entails a court appearance and a $2500 fine. He wrote her up for 79 mph and let her go, somewhat abashed.
