CHICAGO It hasn't always been a Cubs town. For instance, the Chicago White Sox were the best team in baseball from 1917-20, but, unfortunately, in 1919, they were the best team that money could buy.
The Black Sox shame, when some of the White Sox stars were paid money to lose to the Cincinnati Reds in the 1919 World Series - and they did lose - will be etched forever in Chicago baseball lore.
That lore actually isn't very rich anyway, considering that neither the Cubs nor the White Sox have won a World Series since the White Sox beat the New York Giants in 1917.

Mayor-for-Life Daley went ballistic on the Chicago Trib for running a story on the Black Sox today. I don't see what the big deal is . . . it's history, and a compelling one at that.
No matter. They're still going to lose :)
I'm a Red Sox fan. The White Sox deserved their playoff victory and now I hope that they win it all. Their fans deserve what we got last year!
Since Detroit nosedived the last quarter of the season I'm pulling for the SOX.
