2005 Power Rankings: Week 13
  RK (LW) TEAM REC COMMENT
1 (1) Colts 11-0-0 Didn't take the Colts too long to jump all over the Steelers, did it? We're not saying they're going to go undefeated, but if you look at the Colts' schedule, it's hard to see a loss.
2 (2) Broncos 9-2-0 Mike Shanahan apparently has succeeded in reviving another RB's career (Ron Dayne).
3 (3) Seahawks 9-2-0 Getting the win over the Giants was big, although we're not sure how much it actually says about how good the Seahawks are.
4 (7) Bengals 8-3-0 You think a few Bengals started looking ahead to Week 13's matchup with the Steelers when they were up 34-0 in the third quarter against the Ravens?
5 (10) Bears 8-3-0 It's time for anyone who is still holding out to realize that the Bears are a good team. Yes, the offense isn't great, but the defense is really good.
6 (5) Chargers 7-4-0 Certain teams and players are often said to have an 'on' switch. Clearly, L.T. flicked his on after halftime against the Skins.
7 (8) Panthers 8-3-0 Not pretty, but the Panthers got a win on the road in Buffalo, which can be a tough place to play.
8 (11) Jaguars 8-3-0 The Jaguars will miss Byron Leftwich, but David Garrard can play. With their schedule and Garrard, the Jags shouldn't slip too much without Leftwich.
9 (6) Steelers 7-4-0 Things that don't happen every week in the NFL: The Steelers actually get pushed around and beaten up.
10 (9) Giants 7-4-0 Jay Feely was having a good year until Sunday. But one bad day is all Giants fans will remember if the team doesn't make the playoffs.
11 (4) Cowboys 7-4-0 They've already jettisoned two kickers this season. Billy Cundiff could be the third if he misses another 34-yarder in the fourth quarter.
12 (15) Chiefs 7-4-0 Pretty impressive performance by the Chiefs' defense (4 INTs and three sacks vs. Pats) in a game KC had to win.
13 (14) Falcons 7-4-0 People might want Michael Vick to be a pocket passer, but he's a better QB and the Falcons are a better team when his running is a weapon.
14 (12) Buccaneers 7-4-0 Huge stretch for the Bucs, who play their next three games on the road (at Saints, Panthers and Patriots). Two wins would go a long way toward a playoff spot.
15 (13) Patriots 6-5-0 The Patriots pretty much need Tom Brady to be their best player to win games and Sunday against the Chiefs (4 INTs) he clearly wasn't.
16 (18) Vikings 6-5-0 Suddenly the Vikings are just one game out of the wild-card race in the NFC.
17 (19) Eagles 5-6-0 So all it took was four straight losses, T.O.'s suspension and Donovan McNabb's season-ending injury for Brian Westbrook to finally get 20-plus carries in a game (and go over 100 yards for the first time all season).
18 (16) Redskins 5-6-0 First Norv Turner. Then Marty Schottenheimer. At least the Skins aren't in position to also lose to Steve Spurrier.
19 (22) Rams 5-6-0 Ryan Fitzpatrick knows a thing or two about comebacks. He rallied Harvard from a 21-0 deficit to beat Dartmouth in his Harvard debut.
20 (17) Raiders 4-7-0 Some players were actually thinking playoffs after the Washington win. Top 10 draft pick is much more realistic.
21 (27) Dolphins 4-7-0 Gotta love a player like Zach Thomas. The guy plays for a 4-7 team that realistically isn't going anywhere, but he wants to play the rest of the year with a torn labrum in his shoulder.
22 (21) Bills 4-7-0 Not that Kelly Holcomb is the second coming, but he gives them a better shot at winning than J.P. Losman, who hasn't had a 200-yard game.
23 (20) Browns 4-7-0 Tough day for Charlie Frye. He came into the game for one play and threw an interception.
24 (26) Titans 3-8-0 Travis Henry (13 carries for 86 yards in Sunday's win over the 49ers) showed that he is still part of the future for the Titans at RB.
25 (25) Cardinals 3-8-0 Kurt Warner is making a lot of fantasy owners happy, but his 300-yard outings aren't doing much for the Cards, who are 0-4 in games in which he reaches that mark.
26 (29) Saints 3-8-0 Given the way their season had gone, many Saints were probably stunned when the Jets' Mike Nugent missed the potential game-winner.
27 (23) Lions 4-7-0 Maybe Steve Mariucci deserved to be fired, but how did he deserve it any more than Matt Millen?
28 (24) Ravens 3-8-0 One week folks want Kyle Boller back. The next they're clamoring for Anthony Wright. Bottom line: neither is getting the job done.
29 (28) Packers 2-9-0 Regardless of what decisions Brett Favre makes for '06, he has to be counting the days 'til this fiasco is over.
30 (31) Jets 2-9-0 Tip of the cap to Curtis Martin, who passed 14,000 yards rushing in Sunday's loss to the Saints.
31 (31) 49ers 2-9-0 We're still in November, and Reggie Bush and the draft are already popular topics. Sad state of affairs for a once proud franchise.
32 (32) Texans 1-10-0 Speaking of Bush, at least Sunday's crushing loss to the Rams keeps the Texans on track to get the USC RB if he's in the draft.

New York Football Giants Ping List

Ping Ultra Sonic 007 to get on or off this ping list.

Here's another one from NFL by Vic Carruci.

(Nov. 22, 2005) -- This is how the NFL's 32 teams stack up after Week 12:

IN THE HUNT

(Teams that look good enough to be among the 12 playoff qualifiers but not based on conference -- listed with record and previous week's ranking)

1. Indianapolis (11-0; unchanged): The Colts are good enough to go 16-0, but will likely shut it down after wrapping up home-field advantage for the playoffs, which looks to be not too far down the road.

2. Denver (9-2; unchanged): Do the Broncos ever run out of running backs?

3. Seattle (9-2; unchanged): The Seahawks are good and lucky.

4. Dallas (7-4; unchanged): The Cowboys go for the season sweep at Giants Stadium.

5. Pittsburgh (7-4; unchanged): The Steelers were no match for the Colts, although there is far more at stake in their rematch with Cincinnati.

6. Cincinnati (8-3; unchanged): Impressive as the Bengals might have been in overwhelming Baltimore, avenging their loss to Pittsburgh would make a far greater statement.

7. Chicago (8-3; unchanged): With the league's most dominant defense, the Bears can get away with having a popgun offense.

8. Carolina (8-3; unchanged): The Panthers did just enough to beat Buffalo, but they'll need much more vs. Atlanta.

9. San Diego (7-4; 10): There might be other worthy candidates, but LaDainian Tomlinson keeps finding ways to separate himself from the MVP pack.

10. N.Y. Giants (7-4; 9): As crushing as their loss at Seattle might have been, the Giants can right themselves in a hurry by beating the Cowboys.

11. Jacksonville (8-3; 12): Losing Byron Leftwich is a blow that could damage the Jaguars' postseason hopes.

12. Tampa Bay (7-4; 11): The Buccaneers don't have time to bemoan their heartbreaking loss to Chicago; they have a winnable game vs. the Saints to play.

MIDDLE OF THE PACK

(Listed alphabetically)
Atlanta Falcons (7-4)
Kansas City Chiefs (7-4)
Minnesota Vikings (6-5)
New England Patriots (6-5)
St. Louis Rams (5-6)

NEED WORK

(Listed alphabetically)
Arizona Cardinals (3-8)
Baltimore Ravens (3-8)
Buffalo Bills (4-7)
Cleveland Browns (4-7)
Detroit Lions (4-7)
Green Bay Packers (2-9)
Houston Texans (1-10)
Miami Dolphins (4-7)
New Orleans Saints (3-8)
New York Jets (2-9)
Oakland Raiders (4-7)
Philadelphia Eagles (5-6)
San Francisco 49ers (2-9)
Tennessee Titans (3-8)
Washington Redskins (5-6)

Predictably, the Giants drop a spot in both polls. But we still remain in the Top 10, and we can still rally against Dallas.

While it's nice to see the Saints win a game, I think they may have cost themselves a chance at Matt Leinart in the draft.

3 missed FG's and 100 yards in penalties beat the 'Gints... not the Seahawks.

But the only reason the Giants had a chance to win were 2 questionable TD calls that the NFL admits were incorrect. I am not a Seahawks fan, but breaks happen.

I think the Colts can still go 16-0. I doubt Tony will pull back completely against either Seattle or San Diego, two teams that nearly lost their last games, and even the third string Colts can beat Arizona

Well... I only saw Shockey's catch and looking at it a couple of times... it was incomplete.

The Giants will drop another spot when they lose another game to Dallas this Sunday.

Your defense may actually bring some respectability back to Da Bears this year. They should have a field day against Brett and what is left of our offense this weekend.AWB

I think the Cowboys are right were they need to be, even if though we want that Thanksgiving game back. A 2-1 mark for three games in 11 days isn't that bad.

BTW, I was cheering for the Giants on Sunday. I figured that if they beat the Seahawks, both of them would be 8-3. If they Boys beat the Giants next week, and assuming that the Seahawks won also, Dallas would be 8-4 and Seattle would be 9-3, and they'd still have to play Indy. Oh well, it's best to think about winning the division first.

There are two guarantees in the North Division this year... A win against the Pack and a win against the Lions; unless the Pack and the Lions are playing each other then its a toss up.AWB

There aren't seperate columns for ugly wins and pretty wins, a W is a W, and Seattle hung tough in hard game against a quality opponent.
