There is no such thing as a guarantee in baseball, but the Yankees are doing everything they can to make it happen.

You also need pitching in order to win a championship. Their staff was miserable in 2005 and they haven't done much to improve it for 2006. The Red Sox, on the other hand, appear to have a strong staff, as long as Beckett, Miller, and Schilling can stay healthy. While the Red Sox may have lost some in offense, I think overall they are going to do better than the Yankees, assuming no major moves between now and the beginning of the season

Schilling
Beckett
Clement (maybe trade bait but $18 million for 2 years is a lot for someone to swallow)
Arroyo (trade Bait)
Wakefield
Fat Boy Wells (Trade likely)
Papelbon (could go to the pen but should be a starter)

Wade Miller unlikely to do anything in 2006 due to shoulder surgery.
