The Teaser for Mel Gibson's Apocalypto Source: Touchstone Pictures December 21, 2005

Your first look at director Mel Gibson's Apocalypto is now online at Apple, where you can view the teaser trailer in High Definition QuickTime here and in regular QuickTime formats here.

Co-written by Gibson and Farhad Safinia, Apocalypto is a heart stopping mythic action-adventure set against the turbulent end times of the once great Mayan civilization. When his idyllic existence is brutally disrupted by a violent invading force, a man is taken on a perilous journey to a world ruled by fear and oppression where a harrowing end awaits him. Through a twist of fate and spurred by the power of his love for his woman and his family he will make a desperate break to return home and to ultimately save his way of life.

Gibson's follow-up to The Passion of The Christ will be released by Touchstone Pictures in the summer of 2006

It's basically about the fall of the Mayan civilization.

The movie is spoken in reconstructed ancient Mayan, dealing with the collapse of Mayan civilization. Gibson has a thing for ancient languages, with the Passion in reconstructed Aramaic, with a smattering of Latin.

Anyone catch them running into chain link fences at the end of the trailer? Is this going to be another movie like "The Village"?

It's basically about the fall of the Mayan civilization.

The Mayan civilization is confronted by one Spaniard with a cold?

I'm not sure, but I don't think the Mayans were conquered by the Spanish. I think they disappeared before the Conquistadores showed up.

I believe it's one of history's biggest mysteries: the Mayan civilization simply vanished. No one knows what happened.

He's in the trailer for a split second. Its the weirdest thing. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.

Stylistically, it reminds me of a Fellini film -- Satryicon. Not to say the story will be anything like it.
