No, make it two.
Let's start the new spirit of these threads by having you remove your tagline.
Amen
Yes, and their battle tactics and flaws are taught at US Military colleges.
"when SOME here said that they were GLAD that sherman did those atrocities to MY family"
Thanks for the reminder to those of us who have no family,
i.e. orphans, that if you don't have family you can just get lost.
This is where I grew up as a kid, until I was adopted at nearly 6
http://www.stjccc.org/intro.html
So do me a favor and stop preaching about "family"
AND I would have been on this thread earlier today
BUT as everyone knows I'm on base every Tue.
AND I'll be ther Wed and Thur this week also.
I'm busy inspecting commercial fishing vessels for the base.
While 'stand watie' may have some residual grief over the alleged slaughter of his ancestors more than 150 years ago, they by no means were the only people who have ever been victims in history. SW, you really seem to be "stuck on victimhood." It's almost 2006, and there are many opportunities surrounding you, if you will only recognize them.
But to come out of nowhere and attack Old Sarge when he is ruminating on the parallels between battles of yesteryear and battles of today ... WHICH HE HAPPENS TO BE FIGHTING ON YOUR BEHALF AS WELL AS ON MINE AND EVERY OTHER AMERICAN ... indicates without a doubt that you are carrying this one-note grudge with you everywhere you go. And, you know, SW, not everyone is interested in hearing about it ad nauseum, especially when you do it in attack-fashion against one of our deployed troops who happens to personally be a hero to many FReepers.
If you identify yourself as an American, then you respect the one who is defending your freedom. If you do not identify yourself as an American, or at least a believer in America ... and I strongly suspect you do not ... then I seriously question what you are doing posting on the FR forum. Aren't there other forums in cyberspace for malcontents with beefs like your?
Sorry I have not much empathy with the fabled "slaughter" of the "natives," but a lot of the stories passed down about that are pure REVISIONIST also, edited to satisfy liberal guilt.
What if someone was praising our British allies on the forum, and suddenly I butted in screaming how Cromwell slaughtered my Irish ancestors? Just as relevant.
P.S. I'm glad you never gave ME one of your *smooches,* I dreaded seeing you post that to the ladies of the Canteen.
'Bye.
Ping
:'D
We live in a country ripe with benefits for everyone... everyone of every color and background ~to believe otherwise is victimhood.
I am Sioux and Cherokee and Scottish and Irish - I have ancestors from the Revolution thru the civil war- both sides, the Spanish American war where my Great Grandfather was a MIA for awhile, both world wars -AND my family suffered irreversible damage, some of that damage I can see right now to this day- as a result of these wars.... and FWIW_ I am damn glad, lucky ,honored and proud to be an AMERICAN.
Some of my ancestors have died and lived poor, miserable lives in the pursuit of freedom..... and don't you dare call *me* a victim of anything.
Historically- Shit happened and people suffered- lots of people ~ and to believe otherwise is idiotic.
In fact SW- Millions of people have suffered, have been murdered, starved to death, robbed blind and generally led miserable lives- North and south east and west- for you and I to be able to disagree with each other in public and to be able to pursue our own selfish pleasures and comforts.
Where I have issue right now- - with you on this thread -is that you can not rise up and disagree with a solider- who you know is away from his family and home- in a polite manner - or even STHU on the topic for one thread and let his comment go without your comment on the topic.
I do not care about your petty grievances with another poster ,I do not care who said what-or what you meant or how you feel about Sherman.
Heck I stay off these threads for a good reason.
However- and here it comes- I certainly do care that I am associating myself with a person who can not put ego aside and just be kind to a solider. Can not put his feelings above your own for a few minutes. You already know that you disagree with him- and you still keep posting to him about this topic... That reeks to me. I will not look the other way any longer.
People need to check their egos and stop with the shallow pettiness toward our troops- we have people in harms way and every other BS game is childish right now.
I am not a mod or Jim Rob and you have no reason to listen to a word I say- but so you know ~SW ~your actions and words are divisive to more than one person here-and effect more than a stupid thread on FR.
While we're on the subject of nonsense and revisionist history, I believe another poster on several other threads called you on your own accounts of your own exploits - and how your own bio keeps morphing from thread to thread.
Not to mention the fact that anytime someone calls you on your hate speech, you begin screaming racist/prejudice/bigot, like every other letter-writer I read in Stars and Stripes.
If you wish to throw historical credentials around, then my fathers' ancestors who endured Valley Forge, just like I'm enduring Ramadi; and my mothers' people who perished at Buchenwald under the Nazi boot, and Budapest under the Bolsheviks; I think they'd speak more eloquently about facing tyranny than your pissing on my flag and my uniform.
And the Staff of Free Republic has yet to respond to my question: By allowing hate speech to stand, does that mean that this website's management agrees with and advocates it?
If so, then a revision of access with CENTCOM is in order, to ensure that "no Soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine" is ever again demoralized or subjected to the scorn of the fair-weather patriotism of Free Republic.
More deafening silence, I'm sure.
I have seen his morphing documented on other sites. All from his posts on FR.
I won't link it here.
Stay safe Sarge.
I think you will find post 49 somewhat worthy of appreciation. Please Old Sarge...you are loved and appreciated. The opinion posted by SW isn't the overwhelming opinion on FR. There have been many posts here in support of you. And as long as I am welcome at FR...mine will always support you!
Stonewall Jackson was a brilliant military tactician; Sherman was a criminal.
On Sherman's march to Atlanta, he was performing 'brilliant' military maneuvers against a vastly outnumbered and under-supplied Confederate Army. And it was actually close until the Confederate's skimpy supply line was cut off.
On the other hand, Jackson consistently whipped northern armies that had twice the number of men as he did during the Valley Campaign.
And General Lee was is regarded by military historians as one of the most brilliant Generals in the history of warfare.
So, you can have Sherman the criminal, but I'd much rather have Lee or Jackson, both honorable and devout men and true military geniuses.
These type of incessant, insane diatribes stem from someone absolutely possessed in reviving the defeated "Lost Cause" in all its uglyness. Maybe this is the main reason he is sadly incapable of existing in today's America.
What you stated required being said. The vast majority in here support you 100%. Many on FR are sick & tired of the revolting problem, which is a total embarrassment to GOP conservatives.
We keep fighting that war because the damnyankees keep taking shots at us. As you may or may not be aware, us Southerners are not a docile people; friendly, but not docile.
And in recent years, a small but growing movement has begun that is dispelling much of the yankee propaganda that has been passed off as history.
All I ask is that you yankees consider that some of the history of the War Between the States is, in fact, yankee propaganda used by the politicians of that day to further their own agendas and still being used to this day.
After all, look at your yankee politicians of today and try to envision what the Iraq War history would look like if written by Kerry, Kennedy, Hillary, Dean, Schumer, etc.
Now picture this gang being around in 1865.
Stonewall was smart indeed. Smart enough to get himself killed by his own troops.
