ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -- The Oakland Raiders fired coach Norv Turner on Tuesday following consecutive losing seasons in which the team managed only one victory in its division.

The 53-year-old Turner, who had a year remaining on his contract worth about $1.75 million, had known his job was in jeopardy for the last two months after struggling to get the most out of star receiver Randy Moss and an offense that also included quarterback Kerry Collins, receiver Jerry Porter and running back LaMont Jordan.

Turner is not Head Coach material. Two failed attempts at it should put him back in the Coordinator role somewhere.

They're dropping like flies. He'll make a fine OC somewhere, but no team should be stupid enough to ever hire him as a head coach ever again.

First rate coordinator, I agree; then again, I would agree to being fired and earn $1.75 million next year.

Not me. Not for $1.75 million. For $1.8 million? Yeah, in a heartbeat.

One division victory in two years? Probably the worst Raider team since '62 (when they went 1 - 13). It's been all downhill for this franchise since Al Davis started public feuding with Marcus Allen in the mid-80s. Yeah, they've had some pretty good seasons since then, and even (luckily) made it to the Big Dance in '02 (only to be slaughtered by the Bucs), but the days of Long, Alzado, Matuzak, Sistruck, Stabler, Lamonica, Plunkett, Otto, Upshaw, Shell, Branch, Belitnikoff, Casper, Hayes, Brown, Allen, Hubbard, Guy, Blanda. .....long gone. The "Raider mystique" is dead.

I wonder what the buy out is on Pete Carroll's new extension at U$C. Pete could stay in CA and would have some talent to work with.

Now it's time to cut Kerry Collins.

Couldn't have happened to a better guy. Al Davis has been a cancer in the NFL for years, and I'm delighted to see him getting his due now.

Few things make a football fan happier than watching the Raiders flounder under that senile old coot.

Turner is not Head Coach material. Two failed attempts at it should put him back in the Coordinator role somewhere.

Or he could try to go to the college ranks and rehabilitate his image like Pete Carrol did.

Turner may not be head coach material, but he did walk into two bad situations.
