Same old Jay Severin
Jay Severin.org ^ | 1/04/06 | Rich Aucoin

Due to an apparent programming glitch at 96.9, the first few minutes of Jay Severin's national debut Tuesday night were preempted by a Laura Ingraham repeat. Jay's show kicked in at around 7:10 pm. In case you tuned out and missed the show, Jay spent most of the evening discussing and clarifying his alleged comment about killing all Muslims, which is old news to Boston's listeners.

The hilight of the show came when Severin was asked by a Boston area caller to respond to Scot Lehigh's "Phoney Pulitzer" column. He refused to address the issue, claiming he didn't want to give Lehigh any attention. Very weak. This reply indicates that Lehigh's column must have been right on the money.

JaySeverin.org is a kind of "Severin-watch" site. There IS a JaySeverin.com and maybe some year they'll actually put something on it, but I think Jay just grabbed the domain name so nobody else would. New Jay Severin show launched last night in Boston, Philly, Dallas, etc.

He can be entertaining but has a big ego (and yet is secretive about his private life), self-contradicting (Kerry-esque flip-flops?) etc.

I listened to him for about 4 years. I got fed up with him last year when he turned against the Iraq war (He even interviewed Cindy Sheehan.) and sided with the courts over the Schiavo case.

I did the same thing. I've always thought he was somewhat of a BS artist. I know he was recently caught claiming to have a graduate degree from BU that he, in fact did not. He also refuses to name the campaigns that he has worked on. He claims to be a libertarian, but I think he's just an aging hippie that sees the rise in conservatism as a good business opportunity.

I tried listening a few times when he aired in Boston, but I couldn't stand his ego. Stories constantly about meeting hotties at upscale bars and yuppie gyms, when all the time he was really a married guy broadcasting from - what - his basement on Long Island?

claims Iraq was not a clear and present danger. If this show flops he can always get a job at Air America.

I like his show. It is one of the best on the radio. I listened to him for many years here in Boston. I like that he isn't a republican cheerleader and that makes him quite refreshing to me. I don't agree with everything that he says but he does a great show and I believe is going to do very well nationally. Be warned that he can be a little vulgar.

Have been listening to new Jay Severin show. It can be entertaining, yes, but the questions about the "fake Pulitzer", etc., still linger.

1) Via http://www.jayseverin.org (a Severin watchdog site), go to "Jay's Pulitzer" for a transcript of a call Jay took on air the other day. He mentioned that the Globe had to print a retraction...but failed to say that the retraction
was in regards to Jay's Muslim comments, NOT one of the "fake Pulitzer" claim!

2) A caller tonight asked him how his lovely wife Renee was doing. Jay accused the caller of "making a name up out of thin air". Now, Jay's personal life in some ways can be seen as his own business but then again he is a public figure (and fodder for gossip columnists, etc.) The guy paints himself on air as a young (not so), swingin' single (not so). Oh well, is he fake? Is he entertaining? Both.

Do I have anything against him? No, but it's fun to talk about this stuff. Again, the show can be good at times, and if he turns out to get more listeners than Rush, more power to him. But figured I'd mention these...
Jay Severin: Best Actor.

I would suggest WPHT 1210 AM, "the big talker" from
Philadelphia, which should be receivable all along the
Eastern seaboard at night.

http://www.thebigtalker1210.com/includes/news_items/news_items_more.php?section_id=2&id=32

In Boston: WTKK FM 96.9.
Washington DC: WJFK-FM 106.7
St. Louis: KMOX AM 1120
Dallas: KRLD AM 1080

Thanks raccoon! Just what I was seeking. I used to listen to him when I lived up in Mass., and it was the highlight of my vacations / visits to my folks. We'd listen to him and laugh and comment etc. When I moved here, well...

Thanks again.

No problem...WPHT should work for you. Unfortunately during baseball season he might get pre-empted often by Phillies...

from Phillies site:
PHILLIES RADIO NETWORK:
WPHT AM Philadelphia 1210 (Flagship station)

I listened to Jay's show entirely last night for the first time in a couple of years. He was quite good, better than when he was in Boston in his later months because I think he has more stop sets and the callers, unless they are all out of Boston, do not test him very much unless they are hard to comprehend because of a language barrier, (Texans and southerners in general) or/and, they are often drunk as well.

He was quite clear about Hamas and the Iranian threat. He has been clear with respect to Hillary's chances and the need to put conservatives on the federal benches. His style was good as he is so clear in his thought process that one can't misunderstand his position unless one is unintelligent or doesn't desire to know. One of his greatest strengths is to let a caller talk and then he examines the caller's logic or facts. He used to do that to Sedeki Kambone in Boston until he (Sedeki) would filibuster the alloted time causing Jay to not be able to affect an answer or comment. I think Sedeki was banned because it became bad radio.

I listen once in awhile. The caller you mention's name is spelled Sadiki Kambon, btw.
