SHE famously snogged Brad Pitt in Troy, but now beautiful Balmain girl Rose Byrne has her eyes on another prize - James Bond.
Byrne, who returned to Sydney to spend Christmas with Aussie actor boyfriend Brendan Cowell, will this week sign on the dotted line to take the role turned down by Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron. She is set to be unveiled as the next Bond girl this week after final auditions closed last week for the remake of Casino Royale.
And while the London-based 26-year-old was one of four starlets vying to play opposite Daniel Craig as spy Vesper Lynd, directors will announce it will be the former Sydney University English student who will go down in history as the next babe to break 007's heart.
Byrne's performances in Troy and Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones brought her to the attention of the 007 production team of director Martin Campbell and long-time Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
They are expected confirm her in the role on Friday.
Advertisement: Byrne has kept a low profile while catching up with friends in Bondi over the past month, revealing nothing of the Bond girl role. She was even given a special password, Alcazar, to get into the audition to avoid a repeat performance like that of actor Daniel Craig, whose mother spilled the beans when her son was cast.
"All the actresses had to perform a bedroom scene with Daniel where Bond says he is leaving the service to be with Vesper Lynd. Barbara Broccoli was particularly impressed by Rose," one insider said.
Filming starts January 30 for a release date in November. A Sony spokeswoman refused to comment on Byrne's involvement.
