Harry Belafonte is at it again. The Associated Press reported last evening (hat tip to the Drudge Report) that the entertainer, in a speech to the Arts Presenters Members Conference, compared the Homeland Security Department to the Nazi Gestapo on Saturday and attacked the president as a liar.
The article quoted Belafonte as having said, We've come to this dark time in which the new Gestapo of Homeland Security lurks here, where citizens are having their rights suspended. Belafonte once again had nothing but disdain for Americas current president:

Harry Belafonte is a huge gift to the GOP. Why? Simple: He's a vivid reminder of how far out on the fringe liberals truly are. We should be thankful that he keeps spewing this cr*p. He's not doing the Democrats any favors with his moronic ramblings.

Belafonte is a pathetic loser. The man is so filled with hatred of the U.S. that he can't see straight. The U.S. provided the economic platform for him to become very wealthy. I have no idea why he hates the nation so much, but he does. It's really sad to watch a person I'd like to appreciate because of his old songs, melt down.
Harry, if you don't like this opressive regime, move to Iran where there there's certain to be one more to your liking.
Heck, you don't even have to move to Iran. Pick any place that's better and hit the road.

Belafonte makes the worst of the barking moonbats look like well behaved, domesticated house pets. The real reason he is so bent out of shape is that the idea that his "signature" song (Banana Boat, DAAAAY-Oh!) was hijacked prior to the liberation of Afghanistan with the famous cartoon duo of Colin Powell and President Bush beating that drum to the lyrics of "Come Mr. Taliban, turn over Bin Laden, Cruise Missile knocking at your door", et al.
Belafonte is clearly in the middle stages of dementia. Institutionalization is definitely in his future.

If he had to live under the REAL Gestapo, he might change his mind.Support came from a quarter I hadnt counted on. It was [Gunther] Grass, speaking in English. For the past hour I have had my eyes fixed on the door here, he said. You talk about fascism and police repression. In Germany when I was a student, they come through these doors long ago. Here they must be very slow.

Is this the new publicity stunt? I remember when growing up that stars would stage accidents and even their death to pump up their careers (or was that just in the movies???).
It's a shame when someone that I use to consider fairly talented finds it necessary to say stupid anti-American statements just to get attention.

Belafonte's remarks on Saturday -- part of a 45-minute speech on the role of the arts in a politically changing world -- were greeted with a roaring standing ovation from an audience which included singer Peter Yarrow of the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary, and members of the arts community from several dozen countries.Figures.

The Gestapo wasn't about listening to people's conversations.
It was about ending them.
