State Representative Marie P. St. Fleur, Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly's choice to be his lieutenant governor running mate, has had three delinquent tax debts in the last four years, including an April 2005 federal tax lien of $12,711 against her and her husband, according to records examined yesterday by the Globe.
(snip)
Reilly, St. Fleur said, first approached her Saturday about being his running mate and offered her the spot on Sunday. She said she told Reilly that she had ''some financial issues" with taxes and student loans, but that he didn't ask her to provide any numbers and only sought assurance from her that she was dealing with the problems.

Will Mass. elect this buffoon Dem.? Here's the situation: Mass. hasn't elected a Dem. gov. since Dukakis in '86, though the state has elected Democrats in just about every other position. Mitt Romney, current gov., wants to leave after this, his first term (how come no Dems. leave after one term?), though, of course, he's prob. running for President.
On the GOP side: his Lt. Gov. Kerry Murphy Healey and businessman Christy Mihos (unless he runs as an Independent). On the Dems, Attorney Gen. Reilly and "pro-business" Clinton guy Deval Patrick.
Reilly's search for a running mate had led to broken promises (ask Worcester mayor Tim Murray), a futile search for a big-money guy to help his campaign (Chris Gabrieli), and now he picks the woman who led the effort to give in-state tuition to illegals. And now THIS comes out about her. Reilly also was in an embarassing situation when he helped to squash info about a double-fatal crash; the father of the deceased girls was a contributor, and the family's neighbor is Bob Davis of Lycos fame and a supporter of his as well, IIRC.
The GOP can only hope that the inept Reilly gets the Dem nomination.
Howie Carr ping: sure to be talked about on Howie's show
today. Tom "Unfortunately" Reilly's running mate pick gets
on the front page of the Globe...for all the wrong reasons!
How can they get in office and raise our taxes WHEN THEY WON'T PAY THEIRS? And thankfully the in-state (read: free) tuition deal for illegals went down (thanks to Howie/talk radio)
but St. Fleur was a leader of that movement.
(to the tune of "America" from East Side Story)
I like to be in America
Ev'rything free in America
Why pay your tax in America
Lots of mon-ee in America!
>>he acknowledged that he didn't make any inquiries about the extent of her financial problems before inviting her to join his campaign.
As WRKO's John DePetro asked this morning, if this guy's
specialty is _investigating_, why didn't he investigate that?
''At best, it was a clerical error; at worst, it was something else," Galvin said.
Sure. Sure.
>>The existence of the tax liabilities in city, state, and federal records immediately raised questions about why Reilly's campaign made no effort to scrutinize St. Fleur's background before Reilly, the leading candidate in polls for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, invited the popular Dorchester legislator to be his running mate.
I'd be willing to wager that any tampering with such records is a Federal offense.
Usually the democratic nominee for governor waits until at least October to implode, but this is even more fun when it happens this early. The Globe wants Deval Patrick so no doubt they'll have more stories to embarass Reilly.
LOL! I'm not always that crazy about DePetro, but he does get off a good one sometimes. Though to ask it is to answer it -- probably his interpretation of "governmental immunity"!
I don't think St. Fleur can be among the biggest scofflaws in the Great and General Court [sic
Maybe he should've paid more attention to her character and less to her gender and race.
He's going nowhere.
OMG! How stupid he looks now!And it's only Wednesday. Think about how much will eventually come out now that there is blood in the water.
His sheer stupidity and disconnection with the People will never cease to amaze me. The People don't WANT illegal immigrants getting benefits that LEGAL U.S. Citizens cannot get. The People don't WANT someone that clearly abused his power to stop an investigation into the deaths of 2 girls. The People don't WANT a Lt, Guvna that does not pay her taxes or does not pay her loans.
I can't wait to see if he's actually gonna put an agenda out in the open or if he's gonna take the Shannon "You've gotta vote for me...because Mitt'll screw everything up" kind of offense that will not work.
Should be fun, once he and Deval go at it.
Yup, this is exactly why they want to take Reilly out of
the running now!

Re-streamcast occurs at 1 am ET
Howie: "She also didn't pay the excise tax on her cars so she can't renew her driver's license. We knew she was a deadbeat but we didn't know how much of a deadbeat...Maybe by the end of the show, more shoes will drop...She'll connect with 'working people'...'Working people' pay their bills, Mr. Unfortunately..."
Howie calls her Marie St.-Elsewhere
Today's Howie poll:
Protester Cindy Sheehan was removed from the house gallery at the State of the Union address last night for wearing a t-shirt which said "2245 Dead. How many more?".
Were the capitol police right in removing Cindy from the gallery?
Yes 88%
No 12%
...maybe should have been worded Should Cindy Have Been Tazed?
Now up to 89 per cent, says Sandy. "I predict that number
will go up"--Howie
Can you imagine if we had a Democrat as governor?
Where would the restraint be? There's a good reason Dukakis was our last Dem guv.
And I pray it stays that way!!!
Exactly. Oh, WRKO, Ch 7, and AP all report: "St. Fleur also cannot renew her driver's license because she failed to pay the City of Boston motor vehicle excise taxes last year".
Of course, they will run separately under Mass. law for their respective offices but plan to team up "...if we get that
far".
Note that Reilly was very hasty in choosing/announcing her
as his "running mate", before checking her finances out.
She may have assured him that she had problems but was
working them out. He didn't press her further on just how
serious these "problems" were.
And I heard that she said she _knew_ this stuff was going to come out. Why not either turn down Reilly's invite,
or come right out with the info about her problems?
No, she waited for them to be exposed in the paper.
And they were, right away.
And how exactly does this kind of behavior qualify
Reilly to be governor? (and the bit about promising
the mayor of Worcester that he wouldn't team up with a
running mate is either a broken promise or that most
Kerry of foibles, a flip flop.)_
