Porter Lets Loose (Steeler Awakens)
pittsburghlive.com ^ | 2/2/06 | Joe Rudder

At first, Joey Porter pledged not to speak with reporters after Super Bowl XL Media Day.

Then, he softened his stance and promised to keep his outspoken mouth in check.

Wednesday, he took that plan and threw it to the ground like a defenseless quarterback.

The Steelers' loquacious linebacker couldn't contain himself yesterday when he learned Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens predicted Jerome Bettis' return to Detroit would culminate with a Super Bowl loss.

"I've been asleep all week, but now, I got woke up," Porter said yesterday. "I've got my first taste of blood, and now I'm thirsty for more. Until now, it was, 'Watch what I say. I can't say this. I can't say that. Don't do anything silly.'

"I'm ready now."

The Super Bowl had been controversy-free until Stevens livened it up with a quote that was published yesterday in Seattle newspapers.

"It's a heartwarming story and all that," Stevens said, referring to Bettis' homecoming and impending retirement, "but it will be a sad day when he leaves without that trophy."

Porter can appreciate some spirited trash-talking, but evidently, not from someone with Stevens' modest credentials.

A 6-foot-7 former first-round pick now playing in his fourth season, Stevens had a career-best 45 catches for 554 yards and five touchdowns this season. By comparison, Steelers rookie tight end Heath Miller posted comparable numbers, besting Stevens by one touchdown.

"I feel like (Stevens), out of anybody, should know his role," Porter said. "I mean, he hasn't done anything to make anybody fear him. Jerome is a walking Hall-of-Fame guy that everybody knows about. This guy (Stevens) was almost a first-round bust, who barely made some plays this year.

I'm going to make sure he doesn't have anything to do with the outcome of the game."

"I hope they take Stevens off the field on a stretcher with a career-ender. "

Ouch!

Reality check.

Sports are just a diversion...ENTERTAINMENT.

It's not life.

It seems the little tyke is a football fan too, and wasn't waiting on no "grownups" to deliver her in time.

Smart kid.......... that little tiny sweetheart!

I'll be thinking of you at kick-off time.

By the way, which team (Steelers or the Seahawks) would you like to see have the ball in the first possession of the game?

"Obviously you're NOT a true Steeler fan. "

What, sadly, is MORE obvious, is you've lost your mind.

"I don't. I don't want to be hearing the whining for the rest of my life about how the Steelers won the SB by being cheap shot artists. Talk to any idiot Bengals fan-they're all "the Steelers cheated us out of our spot".

Bengals fans are apparently emailing sports shows angry that the Steelers are in their rightful place, as they have themselves convinced they would have won the first round playoff game if Palmer hadn't gone down on his first pass of the game.

Meanwhile, the Steelers' quarterback went down mid-season for knee surgery, and if that had not been the case it is a much more resonable assumption the Bengals never would have won the Division, and that first round playoff game would not have occurred.

Reality is a tough pill to swallow for many.

You might want to include competent reffing to that list.

"Regardless of what your real gender is, you SOUND like a typical woman. "

I don't care what gender you are.

You require adult supervision.

"It's a heartwarming story and all that," Stevens said, referring to Bettis' homecoming and impending retirement, "but it will be a sad day when he leaves without that trophy."

Stevens is six feet seven inches tall ............ that makes 79 inches of Seattle baloney.

;-)

I'll see that Seattle Baloney and raise you a gameday Seahawk wing recipe:

Freshly clipped left-wing of Seahawk

Wings
2 lbs Seahawk left-wings (about 12 left-wings)
3 Tbsp butter, melted
4 Tbsp bottled hot pepper sauce (like Crystal or Frank's Original)
1 Tbsp paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Celery sticks (optional)

Blue cheese dip
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 Tbsp white wine vinegar or white vinegar
1 clove garlic, minced

1 Cut off left-wing loons, er, um, I mean tips (discard or reserve for other use such as making stock). Cut wings at the joint. Put Seahawk wing pieces in a plastic bag. Set aside. Food safety note: when cutting raw Seahawk it is best to use a cutting board reserved just for cutting raw Seahawk. Wash thoroughly when finished. Do not let raw Seahawk juices come in contact with other food.

2 Create a marinade by stirring together the melted butter, hot pepper sauce, paprika, salt, cayenne pepper and black pepper. Pour all but 2 tablespoons of the marinade over the Seahawk pieces in the plastic bag. (Reserve marinade for coating after the pieces come out of the oven.) Seal bag and let marinate at room temperature for half an hour. When marinating is finished, drain marinade and discard bag.

3 Place left-wing pieces on the rack of a broiler pan. Broil 4 to 5 inches from the heat for about 10 minutes on each side, until Seahawk is tender and no longer pink. Remove from oven and baste with reserved marinade.

Blue cheese dip

Combine dip ingredients - sour cream, mayonnaise, blue cheese, vinegar, and garlic - in a blender or food processor. Blend or pulse until smooth. Cover and chill up to a week.

Serve with Ice Cold beer here!....and savor the spicy taste of victory!!!!!!!!!

And if someone here posted that they hope you suffered a similar injury on your next drive in the car, what would you think?

You're an idiot.
