Steelers soar into history with Super 21-10 win

DETROIT (AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers finally gave coach Bill Cowher some Super Bowl satisfaction.

Moments after the Rolling Stones rocked a Ford Field filled with Terrible Towels, Willie Parker broke a record 75-yard touchdown run, sparking Pittsburgh's 21-10 victory Sunday over the Seattle Seahawks.

Not only did the Steelers earn that elusive fifth championship ring and their first since 1980, but they completed a magic Bus ride that made Jerome Bettis' homecoming - and farewell - a success.

"I'm a champion. I think the Bus' last stop is here in Detroit," Bettis said. "It's official, like the referee whistle."

On this night, satisfaction was more than Mick Jagger's signature song that closed the halftime show.

It was sweet validation for Cowher with a title in his 14th season as their coach, the longest tenure in the NFL. The tough guy, who lost his only previous Super Bowl 10 years ago, teared up as he walked to midfield to embrace Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren.

"It's surreal," Cowher said. "I'm going to tell you, this is a special group of coaches, a special group of players. I was one small part of this."

Pittsburgh tied San Francisco and Dallas with its five Super Bowl titles.

Although I'm glad the Steelers won, I was saddened to see how much football is debased by garbage like the Rolling Stones, etc. Vince Lombardi is spinning in his grave. Speaking of Lombardi, it was sad to see how much Bart Starr has aged...hard to watch childhood heroes grow old.

The Steelers would have lost if it wasn't for the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision to stop the game clock.

It was an ugly game, but I'm sure they'll take it. Congrats to Steelers fans. I took them as my adopted team after the Bengals were eliminated (I forget who did that now...) and somehow my support didn't yield the usual curse. I was hoping the Bus could have gotten a TD and that Big Ben had a better game. But a win's a win. I reviewed the live thread and found the sore loser syndrome in advanced stages. It was a Code Black.

Very ugly, indeed. Ben played like a 2nd-year guy, after being almost perfect in the postseason. But if was enough to win. That throw to Hines Ward down on the 3 at a 3rd-and-20 was the best!

Back to Puppy Bowl II :)

And a very special group of refs.

Well. I live right down the street from the Cowgi....Cowboys training camp. They had better things to do. Narcissus hybrids, daffodils, tulips, hyacinth were planted today around the parameter of the field. A very productive day.
