You'll be glad to hear that our local talk show host is complaining about Aretha's blues version of the national anthem. He also mentioned all those "extra" notes she put in. Interesting thought on his part: That there seems to be an attempt on the part of the networks to put it in the context of the New Orleans hurricane by using a blues rendition. In any event, people are calling in and agreeing that it was terrible.

The best commercial I saw last night was I think for a cell phone... shows a guy walking around town while all these olympic/sport acts occur around him, baseballs thrown, olympic fishing, etc.

I don't see it on the google page, perhaps I saw it while flipping channels. ANybody know anything about this one?

Local morning show host on 98.1 in Richmond is saying the same thing - that it was just bloody awful.

I don't think the networks had anything to do with it. I think was all Aretha and Aaron. Surely they listened to playbacks from rehearsal and realized how bad it sounded? Or maybe not.

The anthem does not lend itself to being "amped up", "bluesed up", "RAPed up", or anything else.

It came across like "Open Mike Night" at the Apollo following one-too-many adult beverages.

All,

Can anyone answer the question about the ID of the blonde in posts 49 & 60?

I could've gone to ANY open mike night in ANY bar in Baltimore and put a jam band together that would've blown The Rolling Bones completely off the stage!

They are getting to be a bit embarrassing. And with the SB in Detroit, I think they should have done some major Motown. But anything is better than Janet Jackson and what's his name.

Yea, I remember it. However, it pales because it was supped to be a joke (although a really poorly thought up one) Franklin and Neville was actually supposed to be real, and it was for an extremely huge telecast, so it should heve been better executed.

I'm in Detroit and just talked to a co-worker who was at the game. I asked him if the anthem was as bad live as it was on TV. He said that it was actually painful but was thankful that the choir drowned Franklin and Neville out.

It was for mobile ESPN. The first one played right after the Streak commercial. I noticed it because of Jim Edmonds.

It will most likely be airing on ESPN so you can probably watch it again.

Did you notice the two guitarists talking to one another during the performance? I think one said "can you believe these fools actually pay money to see us?"

I thought the Budweiser pony pulling the wagon and being helped by the big horses was sweet.

The Fedex ad was #2, the Clydesdale pony got "Miss Congeniality", but the big winner at our party was the Ameriquest ad with the lady on the airplane.

P.S. The Google site missed a bunch of ads. For the complete run-down, go to the AOL link on the google site. It's a cheesy contest, but at least ALL of the ads seem to be there!

Perhaps I missed something but most disappointing to our family was the lack of any patrotism in this year's coverage- commercials and other. We are at war with many soldiers in foreign lands watching and there was nothing that acknowledged them during the game. I was stunned by this and think this is the most disappointing aspect of this year's superbowl.

My favorites were the Ameriquest commercials, both were good but the "turbulence" one was hilarious. Other than the fedex and clydesdales ad, the rest were pretty lame.
