I agree, the call could have gone either way, and either way both sides could have insisted they got robbed. Was the call a blatantly biased one that gave the Seahawks the game though? No way-if it was such an intentionally wrong call, let's face it, reasonable people would not be disagreeing about it. It's a matter of an inch or two, seen by the human eye in a flash of an instant, and not even visible enough on replay to conclusively say one way or the other.
In any case, don't you think Bill Cowher goes for it and gets the TD on fourth and 1/2 inch in the Super Bowl? Based on past experience I'd say that's a 99% probability.
Same thing with the offensive pass interference. If Seattle apologists would be honest with themselves and imagine that play as a Steeler on offense and Seattle on d, they know damn well they'd be SCREAMING for that OPI call.
Look, I don't mind people questioning this call or that call, but to say it was some kind of concerted effort is ridiculous-these are split second calls, there's not time to think "Ok, that wasn't really a penalty but I really want the Steelers to win"-these are not OBVIOUS mistakes like the overturned Polamalu interception.

Maybe the refs were making up for that "Blown" interception call in the Indy game.
Personally, I thought Pittsburg would win but didn't care who won since I didn't bet on the game.

Porter was wrong to say the bad call was purposeful by the refs. Got that so far? But, if you remember, the very next day the league came out and said the ref blew the call. Remember?
Now (try to concentrate) ......... have you heard any reversals from the NFL on any of the Super Bowl calls? No, I didn't think so. So your comparisons are just foolish. At least you are consistent. Now stop flailing away. You're not acting very smart. But maybe you're just not smart, but I don't think that's the case. You're just stubborn.

I watched a 16-14 game that the Hawks won.
The game sucked and the reason was the officals. Its a black eye for the NFL but we will all get over it and next september when the Steelers play the Colts to start the season we will all(the real fans) watch anyway.

It wasn't the officials who managed the clock as poorly as any team in history at the end of the first half and the end of the game. It wasn't the officials who held Alexander to under 100 yards.
I am in AWE at the number of whiners we have created in this country. It all stems from Sore/Loserman and Florida 2000.

You put your finger right on the problem. The Super Bowl draws lots of viewers who don't know squat about the rules, but that does not stop them from yapping.
Let's imagine that the Defensive back had pushed off the receiver exactly the same way and made an interception in the endzone, would you then call it a penalty?
When a player has a fully extended arm against the other player's chest and actually moves him away from the play, that is a push off. That one could be used in instructional video on the push.
I ask you too. If the D-back had done the same thing to the receiver, would it have been a pass interference call?

I'm amazed at the number of people here who believe in the rule of men rather than the rule of law. Football, like any other game, has meaning only when played by the rules. Our judicial system, similarly, is valid only when it follows the law. Judges who legislate from the bench are tyrants, and so are referees who make the rules up as the game goes. No wonder our judicial system is broken when supposed conservatives and libertarians aid, abet, and worship the oligarchs throughout society.
I'll stand with Rush Limbaugh when it comes to the political nature of the NFL and they interest in promoting certain players because of their Q rating and not because of their talent or ability. I'm a Cowboys fan and I'm absolutely sure that I've seen calls go our way which were completely unambiguous back in the 90s. Do I think that they have meetings and plan out the ways they are going to do it? No. But when all of the GOP thinks that Bush won the debate and all of the Dims think Kerry won - its simply a matter of bias in most cases. And you are biased in favor of your own personal interests. Or those of the person who is instructing you.
I think that Seattle got screwed but even I wouldn't have overturned this call. Using whatever standard they have, this wasn't clear and convincing evidence that they got it wrong the first time. Now, here is the place where it gets interesting, if they had ruled that this WASN'T a TD then the replays would not have been evidence to overturn that ruling either. So, did the refs have the idea that the just 'expected' the Steelers to win and whenever something close happened they just 'presumed' that it was okay? You will never prove it in a million years, but it certainly is more speculative than the 2000 elections and there are still millions of people wearing tin hats after that one.
Their 'two-minute drill' was over in 10 seconds.
