RUSH: Josh in Boise, Idaho. Josh, I'm glad you waited. You're up today. Nice to have you on the program.
CALLER: Mega dittos, Rush, from the Gem State.
RUSH: Thank you, sir.
CALLER: First of all I want to say congrats for your Pittsburgh Steelers last night.
RUSH: Thank you.
CALLER: And I myself rooted for Seattle. The Super Bowl is what I wanted to talk to you about, actually. I wanted to beat some of those whiners from the e-mails that were going to read to the punch on this. You still there, Rush?
RUSH: Yeah, I'm still here.
CALLER: Oh, okay. All right. You know, I watched the game last night and I disagreed with a lot of calls but there is no way that the referees in any away influenced the outcome of the game -- and, you know, if I were Holmgren, I would be really insulted as a coach of the Seattle Seahawks that the fans would whine about the referee calling, and the reason why is I would say that the Seahawks didn't have any power to come back to the game, which I thought they put a up a really good fight -- and you know, the bottom line, Rush, is that Pittsburgh deserved to win. As a coach, I've always told my players and my parents to shut up to the referee; don't talk to the referee, and after the game I've never told them to come up with excuses leading to the idea that the referees had something to do with the outcome of the game.
RUSH: Here's the thing, though. I do think the NFL has an officiating problem. This post- season did feature some pretty disastrous calls that the league admitted to a day or two after games were played. But, you know, the old theory is they even out over the course of a season or over the course of two or three seasons, the human element and so forth. It's just I have never seen it before. E-mail today was just loaded with whining Seahawks fans about the officiating. I mean, every fan of every team can cite a big game that you've lost and the officiating didn't go your way, and it's the way of the world. It just the way it is.
I don't want to get into an in-depth game analysis here but I'll just say one thing. I saw some of the worst clock management on behalf of a professional football team in my life in that game last night by the Seattle Seahawks. I was stunned. They just seemed out of control, and when the game started, it looked like the Seahawks were going to own that game in the first quarter. I was really biting the nails.
Josh, I appreciate the phone call.
LOL
Just feel lucky that the sehawks shot themselves in the foot. The vaunted Stillers defense was pretty much manhandled. Did that pansy Porter make any tackles? ;o)
I can't recall a playoff season that had more bad calls than this one.
unfortunately for the Seahawks fans out there, Seattle did just enough, via clock mismanagement, missed FGs, obviously bad play calling, and missed tackles to lose the game.
me neither....
I'm still waiting on an explanation on the "illegal block" on Matt Hasselback....
The goal line call was questionable and the push off call was weak. The NFL officiating the postseason was unacceptable in my opinion. The Pats, Steelers and Seahawks got boned on a few calls.
However, the clock management was a joke as were the dropped passes and the two huge defensive breakdowns. If Seattle had taken care of buiness they win the game.
I did not watch all of the game, but I saw 2 terrible calls. The offensive pass interference and a non existant holding call. Grrr.
lol!
Oh, they pissed on the plums alright.
The bright side is that we didn't have to see Cowher crying after another big loss. Thank Goodness. LOL
The Steelers had every right to complain about the Indy officiating. Don't tell me they didn't and the NFL even agreed that their guy screwed up.
The officiating was not up to scratch last night but it didn't cost them the game though. It may not have helped but the drops, missed kicks, blown defensive plays, bad clock management and Hasslebeck's interception made it a certainty that they couldn't win.
Jeremy Stevens was AWFUL! Flippin butterfingers.
you can lie to yourself all you want because of your love for the the game, I couldnt believe what I was seeing last night and am disgusted. To sit there with a straight face and say the penaltys had no impact on the game is ridiclous! The refs taking momentum and points away from Seattle and giving momentum and points to Pit. Im tired of argueing about this, im no Seattle fan im a Bears fan.
A Bears fan? Your team had a suprisingly good year.
Yea and the only Pit TD that wasnt helped by the refs the long TD run. Bens TD(Helped by the refs), Randel El TD pass(helped bythe ref because of the holding call, Seattle should have been 1st & goal)

The offensive pass interference call was great! - The fact is WR continually get away with push offs over and over again...and if the DB's ever came close to touching the WR (as the WR does to the DB's) it would be call every single time.
If the Steeler CB had pushed off on the Seattle WR (in that exact play in the end zone) there is without a doubt Seattle would be demanding a Defensive Pass interference call.
The reality is the NFL has continually over the past 5-6 years tweaked every rule in favor of the offense over and over again. Hell in a year or two QB's will be wearing little pink skirts....(you can't even touch them hardly any more).
As for the holding call.....come on, that is a complete judgment call...and it is 10 to 1 on holding that everyone gets away with (that is just part of the game).
Hell the Hasselback's fumble...was a fumble and they over turned that back in favor of Seattle.
Does this mean that the non Seahawks fans can continue to point out the poor officiating without being called whiners?
