Javascript? HELP! My links don't work anymore
Little Girl in MD Needs TECHNICAL Help | 02/09/2006 | Me

Posted on 02/09/2006 8:33:38 PM PST by Woodstock

My computer is broke! None of my Pogo.com links work and Texas Hold 'Em is calling. In fact my Norton 2006 has crashed and it seems any links related to security on Microsoft and Semantec don't work either

Does anyone know what virus, worm or stupip kid-game download has caused this? How do I fix it? I have enabled my Active-X and Javascripts (not that I know what that will do.)

This started about 4 days ago. I am running WinXP and IE5.something.

Please help this techno-peasant!

Good Call.

Also Trend Micro Houscall.

Adware Personal.

And Reg Cleaner.

I'll bet the poster doesn't even have a firewall.

Dear techno-peasant,

If I had the knowledge to help you out on this I would, but I'm not much of a comp. wizard. In the future, be careful what you download of the web. Good luck too ya'.

Jeff

I did have everything, including firewall - Norton really hurt me when I upgraded to 2006. That's when all of this started. : P

Really? That is strange. You say you began having problems after installing NAV '06? Even weirder.

Still, system restore works wonders. Try it.

Goto Start Up Menu, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Resore.

Click on System Restore and it will restore your system to the most recent restore point (yesterday).

You will lose all of your stored files from the last day before the attack but you will get rid of the bug.

If you have important files you want to protect burn them to a disc and then do the system restore.

This may take awhile, but it doesn't sound like a quick and easy fix.

Download and run the following (cut and paste the address into your browser -I don't have my html cheat sheet handy)

AdAware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Spybot at http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

AVG virus scan at http://www.grisoft.com/doc/289/lng/us/tpl/tpl01

And consider also installing ZoneAlarm firewall.

Then, go to http://www.mozilla.com/ and download Firefox 1.5 for your browser.

All of these programs are available free of charge for personal use and will go a very long way to solving your current problem(s). I would also STRONGLY suggest that you delete or COMPLETELY disable IE and Norton or whatever other utility you have. Both of those tend to interact unfavorably with anything that performs a similar task.

I'm certainly no expert, but used to have the same issues when I was using Windows on a regular basis. Good luck!
