Man grips future with microchip implants in hands
Seattle Times ^ | Wednesday, March 1, 2006 | Kristi Heim

Bellingham entrepreneur Amal Graafstra has given a new meaning to hands-on technology.

In each hand, between his thumb and index finger, is a microchip implant, which he can use to open doors to his apartment and car and sign on to his computer.

The one in his left hand was designed for tracking wildlife, among other things.

He ordered both chips for less than $5 each on the Internet.

"I saw pets getting these things for years, and then I heard about people getting the chip implant," he said. "I wanted to use that technology so I don't have to carry any keys."

Graafstra, 29, is one of a small but growing number of people experimenting with RFID chips in their bodies. He plans to talk about his project at 7 p.m. today at an event called Dorkbot at Seattle's Center on Contemporary Art. At the event, a local cosmetic doctor will implant the chip in a Canadian robotics enthusiast.

RFID, or radio frequency identification, transmits information wirelessly from a tiny chip or tag to a reader device. Its applications are broad, from tracking merchandise in warehouses and controlling access to buildings, to identifying pets if they're lost.

Anyone care to discuss what this means and how it relates to the book of Revelation?

And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. Here is wisdom Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.
-Revelation 13:16-18

RFID is no holy grail. In fact, it could be the one thing that destroys all privacy once and for all.

It has the potential for great uses but it also has the potential for great abuses as well.

I most note that the number translated isn't 666, it's 616.

Overeducated idiots who are too ethusiastic about technology. They never give a thought as to whether it is good or worth it or even very useful (Why would I even want an RFID chip implanted in ME so I can open doors faster?). These are the type of fools who would assist Dr. Mengele because, "it's just science, and it's ooh so cool!" Basically, their adult-aged children who still want to play with toys.

I disagree....I work on small-screen devices and would love to get similar chips implanted under my skin. And no, I am not an "adult-aged child" who would "asist Dr. Mengele." I am against human harvest of embyonic stem cells and other technical advances that go against my morality.

I find it funny that luddites who don't care about technology somehow tag people who are unlike them as sinful and irreligious. You need to develop your arguments and make a rational case; posts like these don't do justice to your understanding of either humans or technology.

Maybe, maybe not... I say not very likely.

Irenaeus in the second century, a century before the manuscript that you're probably referring to, already knew of the 616 variation and discounted it as an error:

Such, then, being the state of the case, and this number being found in all the most approved and ancient copies [of the Apocalypse], and those men who saw John face to face bearing their testimony [to it]; while reason also leads us to conclude that the number of the name of the beast, [if reckoned] according to the Greek mode of calculation by the [value of] the letters contained in it, will amount to six hundred and sixty and six; that is, the number of tens shall be equal to that of the hundreds, and the number of hundreds equal to that of the units (for that number which [expresses] the digit six being adhered to throughout, indicates the recapitulations of that apostasy, taken in its full extent, which occurred at the beginning, during the intermediate periods, and which shall take place at the end), — I do not know how it is that some have erred following the ordinary mode of speech, and have vitiated the middle number in the name, deducting the amount of fifty from it, so that instead of six decads they will have it that there is but one. [I am inclined to think that this occurred through the fault of the copyists, as is wont to happen, since numbers also are expressed by letters; so that the Greek letter which expresses the number sixty was easily expanded into the letter Iota of the Greeks.] — Adv. haer. 5.30

The Veri-chip Bus is coming to a town near you.

Seven health-care facilities, located in Arizona, Texas, Florida and Virginia, have signed up to distribute the chip, in addition to mobilizing a large bus the company has outfitted as a mobile "chipping station."

Don't you know that the average person wastes nearly four seconds a day unlocking doors? /s

I'm just saying, the beast will ascend to the throne
declaring "I am God". That's a good hint that he is the 666.

Got it...I can see how one might think stigma is a digamma...same sort of "F" shape.

From Wikipedia:
The Greek numeral 6 had the same form as the letter digamma.
However, in medieval and modern usage,
the numeral has normally been written in the graphic form of a stigma.

(It's all Greek to me.)
