(Packer) Notes: Kicker Vinatieri includes Green Bay in travel plans

The Green Bay Packers are considering replacing the most prolific kicker in their history with one of the most prolific kickers of the last decade.

New England free agent Adam Vinatieri, one of only two kickers in National Football League history to score 100 or more points in each of his first 10 seasons, is on the Packers' radar and is expected to make a visit soon.

The NFL Network reported Tuesday that Vinatieri would visit the Packers this week, probably on Friday, to meet with team officials.

Acquiring Vinatieri, the hero of two Super Bowl victories, won't come cheaply. The Patriots designated Vinatieri their franchise player each of the last two seasons, paying him base salaries equal to the average of the five highest-paid kickers in the league the previous year.

In 2005, he was paid a base salary of $2.5 million. Had the Patriots used the tag on him again this year, his salary would have risen to $3 million.

To sign Vinatieri, the Packers are going to have to surpass the $2 million average and $3 million signing bonus Ryan Longwell received Saturday from the Minnesota Vikings. Longwell, the Packers' all-time leading scorer, was the first of three big-name free agent kickers to sign a deal.

It's pretty simple. The Patriots have a number and if Adam wants more than that he won't be back. Period.

The only reason this is happening is to get THE franchise player of all time for the PACK the legendary, BRETT FAVRE, to come back and play.
And I applaud the PACK every step of the way.

GO PACK!!!!!!!!!!!

O.K. McGinnest is too old for a big contract, but him leaving is going to hurt. Givens leaving...
