Owners of Piper the cat said their pet scampered up the giant tree outside their Summerville home on March 13 and all efforts to coax it down were unsuccessful.

Monday, the cat jumped from an 80-foot branch.

Home video of the fall showed the cat clipping a few branches and then landing on its feet and running away.

Local 6 News reported that Scottie Colvin was visibly shaken after the fall but was then thrilled her pet survived.

"I am scared to death, but at least she's down and she's running, so she's alive," Colvin said. "Thank you all for coming out."

A reporter asked, "When you saw her in the air what did you think?"

"I just wanted to catch her," Colvin said. "I know that's stupid because I probably would have gotten killed but I just wanted to catch her."

Piper was later found under a car after the 80-foot fall.

Colvin said the cat was checked out by a vet and has no injuries.

Sounds more like somebody on a grassy knoll plinked her in the butt with a BB gun.

I don't know of any cats that would jump that far voluntarily.

My grandmother threw the cat out a second-story window. My guess is that it got into the food again. A few minutes later it came walking in the door.

I have to be honest...I really do like cats.

I have a 15 pound Siamese that I call "My big happy boy" because he is always in a good mood.

He will walk up to me, scrunch down like he is getting ready to pounce, and jump up into my arms. I will catch him and roll him over on his back and rock him like a baby. He just lays there with a cat-smile and loves it as I rub his tummy.

The nice thing about having a big Siamese like that is after 10 years, he has only come home injured from a fight one time. He had some kind of infection in one of his claws.. I imagine the cat or dog he got it stuck in was doing a bit worse!

We live in the woods so who knows, might have been a coyote?

Anyway, cats are great pets if you don't want to spend a ton of time training. Dogs are great if you do like training them because they can be trained to do all sorts of fun things.

I have Ibizan Hounds.
They're a 'primitive breed', meaning that mentally and genetically they're just barely domesticated.

They are brilliant dogs but refuse to do obedience training or any other "doggy dog" sort of stuff.

It's like having a pack of self-sufficient, uppity wild jackals in the house.

[And I love it].....:))

Being mercilessly efficient hunters of all small-to-large prey, my having a cat is *not* a good idea. I tied to have a seal-point Siamese once and they kept her pinned under the sofa for 3 days.

I thought they'd tire of "the hunt" and accept her but all they did was set up a rotating shift with each dog staring at her for hours at a time, just in case she came out.

After having to feed her there and shoving her litter box under the sofa, I decided to return her to lady I got her from.

You can reprogram a modern domestic dog to an extent but apparently you can't circumvent 5000+ years of genetics.

"He had some kind of infection in one of his claws.. "

Could've been something as simple as a blackberry thorn.
They're nasty things for soft paws.

I purposely let a blackberry thicket grow in my backyard and feed my birds under it specifically to deter stray cats [and my hounds] from slaughtering them.

Your kitty may have stepped on a dead cane hidden under leaves or weeds.

They get infected without fail, should anything be so unfortunate as to pick one up or step on one.

[i.e....I no longer go barefoot back there]
