Terre Haute, IN (Sports Network) - The Indianapolis Colts reportedly agreed to terms with placekicker Adam Vinatieri on Tuesday.

According to a report on ESPN, the contract could be made official on Tuesday night.

Considered to be the best clutch kicker in the history of the game, Vinatieri will be replacing the most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history, Mike Vanderjagt, in Indianapolis.

Vinatieri is best known for connecting on the winning field goals in two of the New England Patriots' three Super Bowl victories.

The 33-year-old Vinatieri has converted 263 of 321 field goal attempts and 367 of 374 extra point tries in 160 career games, all with the Patriots.

That implies there's only been one.

They say you're only is good as your last one.

He is one of the better kickers. I think Indy is overplaying their hand. Vandy is probably one of the best 5 kickers in the game.

Predictions on where he'll land? I say New England.

I'm an Eagles fan but I actually enjoy tracking sports dynasties (except the Yankees) BION. Looks like the one in Foxboro is over. The Pats had a chance to match the Chuck Noll Steelers' feat of 4 titles in 6 years this coming season. With McGinest and Vinatieri gone, that probably won't happen now.

I think that the thinking in NE was that he was too much of a hit against the salary cap. He was making a lot of money, and I think the prevailing thought--true or not--is that kickers are a dime a dozen.

The Saints thought the same thing when they let Morten Andersen walk. Atlanta grabbed him and went on to win the NFC title. It took two years, and a lot of blown games because of missed field goals, before they found a kicker who was consistent and not a headcase. Kickers may be a dime a dozen, but good ones can be hard to find.

I absolutely agree, so long as the game is in the third quarter. Put the game on the line, though, and his Indy history ain't that great. Can't speak to the CFL stuff.

At least he had the leg to hit the 46 yarder he missed, as well as 50 yarders. I don't see Vinatieri hitting any at this distance or being allowed a shot to attempt it at this distance too often. We'll see.

If Indy's running game weakens because of the loss of Edge and/or any turnover on the O-Line, we'll see how good the Vinatieri signing is soon enough.

One of the issues Belichek had was the lack of leg on kickoffs...The Pats don't carry and extra kicker for kickoffs, and Adam had something like 3 touchbacks over his career. Those hidden yards on kickoffs lead to points over the season.
