Cruise is FORCED to stick with the Scientologists. They have too much blackmail material on tape for him to leave. One of the Scientologist tricks is to get the idiots who turn to them for help to confess their innermost secrets on tape. Then they are subject to a lifetime of blackmail. One can only guess (and a pretty reasonable guess) as to what Cruise confessed to.
