MEMPHIS, April 4 (UPI) -- Country music star Hank Williams Jr. Tuesday surrendered to police on charges he allegedly assaulted a Memphis waitress.
Williams, 56, cut short a hunting trip after learning a warrant and an all-points-bulletin had been issued for him, E! Online reported.
With his attorney in tow, he reported to Shelby County Sheriff's deputies and was booked on a charge of assault with intent to commit bodily harm.
Holly Hornbeak, a 19-year-old Memphis hotel bar waitress, claimed Williams cursed at her, asked to kiss her, then lifted her up in a choke hold when she refused just after midnight on March 18.
Williams' publicist, Kirt Webster, released a statement saying his client was a victim of greed and extortion would be proven innocent of the assault charge.
Webster said Hornbeak's attorney demanded "an outlandish amount of money" to settle out of court and when Williams refused, threatened to file suit against the singer.
I'm guessing the mug shot is a lot better than it would have been without the plastic surgery.

My advice to Hank is to get his daughter out of Memphis and never come back here. The way he's been treated is above and beyond what anyone in his position should have to deal with. I just can't believe he did what he's been charged with. I pray that his daughter recovers fully. Hank should never come back to Memphis because of the treatment. I live here and can't wait to shake the dust of Memphis from my shoes.

I fear that since the historic Tom DeLay grinning mugshot, we won't be seeing any good celebrity mugshots anymore. The celebrities, despite their typically less than high school education, are, gasp!, learning!

Since this supposedly happened about a half month ago, and Ms. Hornbeak has apparently been spending her time trying to get a larger and larger share of cash out of Mr. Williams, I would say a jury might have some questions about the veracity of the report.
Prediction: As with most cases of this ilk, Ms. Hornbeak will soon be wishing she had taken the original offer.
