Escaped pit bulls struck fear in the hearts of Stansbury Park children Friday as they walked home from school. Five children were injured in the attacks, though none of the injuries were fatal. Both dogs were shot dead in a showdown with sheriff's deputies after several witnesses reported the attacks.
"[The dogs] started traveling and made their way to the golf course," Tooele County Sheriff Frank Park said. "There they met a 13 year old and a 6 year old by the golf course ... They were cutting across the golf course after school ... The dogs charged them and growled."
The dog escaped from their fenced back yard on Crystal Bay Road in the north corner of Stansbury Park around 3:30 p.m. The owners reportedly said the gate had been, perhaps, blown open by the wind.
A witness saw the children in danger and ran to their aid.
"She witnessed the dogs from her living room," Park said. "The dogs came back and she put herself between the kids and the dogs ... She was bitten on the leg and hand."

Good to see the owners stood up to their responsibility.
I guess the Police took a break from beserking to shoot the Pit Bull. Sorry, I couldn't resist. :-)
Reason #2 why I carry a 1911 .45cal ACP, concealed.
Interesting pattern in these recent attacks...
It's almost like the neighbors have an emergency action plan. Someone calls 911, able bodied adults grab baseball bats, golf clubs or a piece of wood and defend the kids until the cops arrive and shoot the dogs.
Almost like African villagers fighting off a lion attack.
Bravo Zulu to the adults that protected the kids.
(just kidding)
Aaaah Yes! The Wednesday morning Pit Bull Atrocity story. All's right with the world.

Please...Don't disparage the sweet breed with the term "Atrocity". They are merely misunderstood.
This owner still doesn't get it....
"The dog tried to attack the officer four times and it tried to attack my mom and my dog. So he was just protecting people and the safety, I think he did a reasonable thing," Victor Wanamaker said of the officer shooting the dog.
"I don't know how you can be threatened by a nine month old puppy," said Buddy's owner
