This is somthing that was posted on an obscure forum that I visit on occasion. It is associated with a sci-fi webcomic. I read it. Some of the rhyme schemes don't go to well and its reads rough in some spots but the last line packs a gut punch.
A soldiers thoughts.
When war has come
Young men die
On orders from above.
We go to where we are sent
And do what must be done.
Why then is there hate for us?
Why when we lay down our lives?
We sacrifice so much for you and all you do is lie.
We fight, we die, on foreign shores
So far away from home.
The news we hear is poisonous
And this is sent from home.
We do not harm the innocent
Yet our leaders say we do.
We kill or die, the soldiers way
Were slandered by the media
who havent got a clue.
Our very lives lay on the line everyday were here
Yet from the hill all we here is hatred, anger, fear.
We are sneered at, scorned and scoffed at. We are lied to every day
Yet you say that you support us and take our dead to pay.
You use them for purposes,
That they would not embrace
We volunteered to come over here
Not to be disgraced.
We are freedoms soldiers, for ideals we will fall
Heroes? Not all of us, but we will give our all.
If we have support from home I know we cannot fail.
Dont support the enemy and soon homeward we will sail.
