I just down loaded it. Does that mean that the older version was automatically deleted from my program files? Or did I just update the older version?

I don't auto-download anything. I went to the mozilla site and d/l'd the upgrade to my hard drive so I can activate at any time. I also have earlier versions I can fall back on in case something goes wrong.

I love Firefox's new updater. I only knew it was updating because I got a notice telling me to restart Firefox whenever I want it installed.

If you just downloaded, but didn't install it, then the old version is still there. If you executed the upgrade, then I think it actually updates whatever files it needs to in place, as opposed to installing a new copy.

I love Firefox's new updater.I do too.
I've been using Firefox at home for a few years now and I really like it. I rarely get pop-ups and so far I haven't had any problems with it.

That's what happened on my WinXP partition.
Though for Linux, I have a customized build for Suse--still on 1.5.0.1 (will Pbone the 1.5.0.3 update in the next day or two)
