Still have that original SUV classic? Nah.....a rival surf crew jerk put sand in the gas tank. Until then it was a sweet ride....for a kid anyway.

300 mph would tear all the rest of the trim off my Caprice. LOL!!! Not to mention your wearing the car's windshield wrapped around your mug and the tires shredding!

The only time I ever went to a drag race was to watch John Force. It was at Lebanon Valley Speedway about 10 years ago.
I had never seen anything like it,the power those cars put out made every bone in your body vibrate as they roared by.
It was amazing to see.

Last year I took a couple to Denver. The church-going lady went nutz...."this is $%#3@-ing Awesome" she yelled. There then was the scientist friend of mine who told me the engines were "scarey-powerful;" he went into some scientific rattle about the forces necessary to generate such power and claimed that we shouldn't breathe tire smoke because its particles were point-something meters small and blah-blah-blah....
So, take wimmin to the drag races.......

I moved from Atlanta about a 10 months ago, and watched the races a Commerce, Ga, every year. Shoot, what a treat (low ETs, top speeds) I am missing. The good news is I can see them in Englishtown, NJ later on...

This thread brings me back to a time of big tires, and JUMBO Horsepower.
My buddies and I would sneak down the alley in Highwood,Ill. and watch
as this car was being tuned and readied for the next race.
Great thread.....

I'm watching it.
I like Melanie's car with all the skulls on it.
She beat the other girl with a holeshot and went over 331 MPH. WHEW!

I am amazed at the number of hole-shot wins. Reactions are important.....or maybe guess-work is. Enders red-lighted; what a goofup.

The pro stock wins in the second round were all hole-shots.
When the cars are so evenly matched it comes down to the skill of the drivers. Reaction time is everything.
Did you see the lady red light by .005 seconds in Pro Stock?
She might have won the event. She is a very hot driver right now.
Just like Melanie last week.

Oh how I wish I was watching it rather than the drywall and plumbing I WAS doing.
*sigh*
Such is the life of a Handyman.
BTW, you ever watch Pinks?
I have to confess it as my one TV guilty pleasure.

Info about it is
here.
Basically, 2 regular guys with "supposedly" evenly matched cars go head to head in a best 3 out of 5 for Pink Slips.
As they say, lose the race, lose your car.
The gamesmanship is impressive as are the cars, sometimes.
Not for everyone, but for an old street racer like me it has a certain attraction.
