After all this time, I don't understand why she lied if the first place. She was drunk and picked up by security guard in the car. Why would she have to lie at that point?
She did not want to go to jail or rehab.
IIRC, she had severe financial troubles. That would supply the motive to try and get some money from some "rich" Duke students. She took on far more than she realized she was.
