Instead of Amnesty (Vanity... looking for your opinions)
self

Posted on 05/16/2006 9:41:04 AM PDT by aquila48

What to do with the millions of illegals already here is one of the toughest aspects facing us today. We seem to be stuck between two or three alternatives, specifically,

1. "path to citizenship" pushed by Bush and the senate and seen by most as amnesty. It violates and insults our sense of fair play vis-a-vis those that are following legal means to come to this country. Also, because of the huge number of new votes at stake both parties are pandering. In fact, just the prospect of them eventually becoming citizens gives them political clout NOW, as though they already had the right to vote. It would bring in even bigger waves of LEGAL and illegal immigrants. National suicide - not a good solution.

2. Round up and deportation (very difficult, very expensive, "inhumane', and very bad PR)

3. Self deportation by enforcing employment rules and eliminating benefits. Would probably solve the problem, however the economic disruption would be significant. This is something though that would need to be strictly implemented for any new illegals once the borders are tightened up.

There is another option that I haven't heard mentioned and that I believe is a much more appealing compromise. It is this:

- Illegals would never be allowed to become citizens unless they go back and come through the legal line. The most we will offer them is restricted permanent residency. They would never have the right to vote, nor the right to sponsor anyone to immigrate here. This solution has the following benefits:

1. It's not as insulting to our sense of fairness. They will not have the same rights as those who come here legally. Unlike the mickey mouse $2000 fine, this represents a significant consequence for breaking the law.

2. It eliminates the new and even bigger flood of LEGAL immigrants that they would be able to sponsor over.

3. It eliminates incentives for the political parties to pander to the illegals because of their future votes.

Go at it freepers - your reactions, constructive criticisms and other ideas are more than welcome!

Wow...never thought I'd see the day--someone who disagrees with Bush but not with namecalling and bile...but an actual, constructive alternative.

Seriously, that's a terrific idea. We should push this through our reps and senators.

Or we could pick the most likely Republican in the House or Senate and tell him to get on it.

What a great idea!

I think you're right. I also think that a huge number of illegals were "deport" themselves if there were an enforceable way to prevent employers from hiring them.

As it is, employers are required to ask employees for certain documents, which the employers must accept. Fake social security cards, and I'm assuming other fake documents, are easily obtained. But if the employer were required to check the social security number, for example, against the name of the employee, it could easily be determined whether the document were genuine. If this were done, illegals couldn't get jobs and they would leave.

As for the "economic disruption," I think most of us would be able to live with it. A Big Mac might cost twice as much, but the people serving them would be making something closer to a living wage. They wouldn't be sucking out as many free government services. And the Americans who the illegals are replacing on those jobs would take the jobs at the higher wages, and wouldn't be on the dole. A win-win situation all around, it seems to me.

Here is my opinion. I am not interested in either political parties' pandering for votes from criminal invaders. They are no better than criminals themselves!

One thing I would add is the removal of the "anchor baby" legislation. As long as these "workers" can have children in our hospitals they have a reason (not a right) to remain in the country.

The second issue is how do we get them to pay for their hospital and education costs?

"But if the employer were required to check the social security number"

If the US can perform an instant background check on an individual attemting to purchase a firearm then why couldn't this same system be used to verify citizenship?

I can't see any way of getting anywhere on this issue without employment enforcement. One problem is the cash economy. Most of the folks working on lawns for example are working for cash and paying wages in cash.

Easy solution, they'll all be gone in 12 months, 18 at the worst..........................

Add some verbage to the IRS code making it "illegal blah blah blah" to work here, even if taxes are withheld without legal permission.

Impose a fine of $10,000 per offense and $25,000 per offense for the employer.

The IRS agent gets 60% of the fines.

Anytime the illegal doesn't pay, the IRS charges their country of origin.

I agree with you 100% on the anchor baby issue. Current law is absolutely ludicrous.

As for how they pay for the benefits, once they are permanent residents they would have the right to work and would pay like everybody else - they would no longer be part of the underground economy.

I sent an email to Tancredo on this... but it's very difficult to get through like that.

Does anyone here at Freerepublic have the ear of a senator or congressman that would be receptive to this?

Nice slogans. How do you do you "Self deport". In case you missed it.Leftist judges have all ready ruled that you cannot deny most of the benefits to Illegals. So your "plan" is a nice slogan but completely unworkable in reality. That the whole problem. The Antis keep kidding themselves that their is some easy, simplistic way to fix a system that has been broke for over 30 years. There is not.

As anyone who has spent time in the 3rd world knows, you will have to physically STOP them. Slogans and pie in the sky magic "solutions" will not stop them. Our whole wealth, peaceful stable lifestyle is the draw. Better working in the US on the underground economy then living in about 90% of the world. They will not "Self deport" that is a fantasy. You will have to physically stop them from coming.

Instead of finding the next totally unworkable day dream of an easy simple answer to a huge problem. Maybe the Perpetual Whiners should simply shut up and actually LEARN what is going on in Washington DC. The US House Republicans have a VERY solid plan. Maybe instead of just screaming, the usual collection of Radio Talking Heads and other Anti Illegals should LEARN what is going on.

Even if you can day dream the "Prefect plan" still got to get thru Congress. That the whole problem with the Antis. They seem to think their emotional whimsy can just be imposed by Presidential Diktat, it cannot. It has got to go thru Congress.

Translation. SJB is mad and wants to squeal endlessly about the problem. They are not interested in solutions, merely their ability to squeal like a stuck pig every day while mindlessly flaming out about the problem.

Sorry the Country needs REAL solutions not more self important ranting and mindless angst from the Perpetual Whiners.

I'm with you on enforcing current employment laws and penalizing employers that break it.

Applying it to people that have become embedded in work place now may be too drastic and disruptive of our society, but I'm all for it moving forward.

My gut definitely wants to go your way, but my head tells me something in between might be better.

I don't have an answer to that, but we have to keep asking here till someone thins of a congressperson with a receptive ear.

We really should pump up this kind of grassroots thing, especially when one of the SavageBots starts with the throw 'em out whining.

Stop with the "I ain't voting" crap and let's get to work on getting our points and our people across.

Instead of mindlessly attacking the GOP maybe the DNC "Virtual Campaigners" pretending to be "Betrayed Conservatives should point out who voted for and against the bill.

Show me any post of my many thousands where I attacked the(GOP) Republican Party! Don't bother, there are NONE! I am stating that Dubya is betraying us on illegal immigration, just as the vast majority of Americans believe. I voted for Congressman Elton Gallegly(R)Thousand Oaks,Ca.7 times, and will again. Elton is not the GOP.
